Job Description

1:1 NURSE (RN or LPN) One (1) Fulltime Vacancy: 35 Hours per week Monday through Friday: time varies on assigned school times and student needs Salary: Per NASE contract based on experience and licensure. Start date: As soon as possible Definition: The 1:1 nurses primary responsibility is to care for the assigned student with documented special needs per their Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). Supervision: Works under the general supervision of the Director of Health Services in accordance with the Massachusetts General Laws Department of Public Health Regulations and the Board of Registration in Nursing. The 1:1 nurse works collaboratively with the building nurse. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Assess and evaluate students medical history including social behavioral psychological and familial concerns. Implement the plan of care with consultation/collaboration of school staff building nurse family and community providers as necessary. Evaluate effectiveness of interventions and provide feedback for the revisions of the plan as direct care for both medical and educational needs for their assigned prescribed and approved medication and treatments to the student. Notify appropriate individuals i.e. building nurse parents staff and providers of immediate and potential health related concerns as the building nurse with information about nursing interventions and the students/response to care. Report to work as scheduled and conducts self in a professional and is administratively accountable to building nurse nursing supervisor and to building principal for provision of health services in the building. Attend monthly nursing staff meetings per the contract. Ensures necessary documentation is done in a timely accurate clear and concise manner including daily home/school communication for other workrelated activities as required or as the situation dictates. Physical Requirements: Light to moderate physical effort demanded in caring for students/staff. May be required to transfer wheelchair bound students and perform toileting/diaper changing needs per their care plan. Ability to communicate verbally with students caregivers and staff. May be required to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Knowledge Ability and Skill: Working knowledge of the principles practices and techniques of modern public and school health nursing. Knowledge of applicable state local public and school health laws and regulations. Familiarity with community facilities and resources providing medical and related social services. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children school personnel health care providers parents/caregivers families community agencies and the general public. Ability to maintain pertinent and confidential medical records. Knowledgeable in IEP/504 educational plans growth/development and the laws pertaining to child abuse. Experience with SNAP Google and other applicable computerized Minimum Qualifications: CPR and First Aid Certification Required licensure in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. Education and Experience: Graduate of an approved nursing years experience in school health or pediatric/adolescent health care is preferred. Experience with EMR such as SNAP. IF HIRED: Official University/College/School transcripts required. DESE Nurse Certification preferred if applicable. Must have acceptable MA CORI and SAFIS National Fingerprint Background Checks prior to employment.
