Job Description
The Macon R1 School District is seekingBus Driversfor theschool year.
Bus Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school extracurricular activities and field trips in the absence of regular bus drivers. The driver plays a critical role in maintaining a safe efficient and supportive environment on the bus for students staff and other road users.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid commercial drivers license (CDL) with a school bus endorsement (or ability to obtain one)
- Previous experience as a bus driver or in a similar driving/transportation role preferred but not required
- Experience working with children is a plus
- Ability to follow safety procedures manage student behavior
- Ability to work under a team concept
- Good communication skills and organizational skills
- Must pass background check
Essential Job Duties:
- Flexibility in scheduling is required to fill in for absent regular drivers;
- Follow assigned routs including regular and alternative routes for special activities and ensure punctuality;
- Ensure students board and disembark the bus in a safe and orderly manner;
- Obey all traffic laws including speed limits stop signs and traffic signals;
- Maintain pupil control and write reports on misconduct of students if necessary;
- Inspectvehicle before driving;
- Report any irregularities in vehicle before or after route
Communication Skills:
- Ability to give clear concise and loud instructions to both children and drivers.
- Ability to show courtesy tact and respect when dealing with others.
- Ability to stay calm in emergency situations.
- Ability to show positive confident and alert body language helps convey authority and attention to safety.
