Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Material Handling Systems Estimator with specialized experience in automotive manufacturing environments. This role involves the estimation and engineering study of main line material handling systems such as Body Welding Paint and Final Assembly lines. The ideal candidate will have handson experience with systems including Electrified Monorail Systems (EMS) Power & Free (P&F) conveyors Skillet (Platform) conveyors Slat Chain conveyors Vertical Lifts and Parts Carriers. You will interface directly with customer engineering teams to assess system requirements deliver costeffective solutions and support technical proposals from concept through to quotation.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimate costs for material handling systems used in automotive manufacturing (Body Shop Paint Shop Assembly Line).
Perform detailed engineering studies to develop optimal and reliable system designs in alignment with customer requirements and best practices.
Interface directly with customer engineers to gather system specifications and translate them into functional technical proposals.
Identify and evaluate lowcost alternatives that meet project goals through Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) processes.
Develop and deliver clear professional technical presentations and proposals to customers.
Conduct site visits during prebid phases to assess layout constraints and integration opportunities.
Coordinate internally with design project management and sourcing departments to ensure accurate and timely quotation development.
Support supplier assessment activities and assist with sourcing decisions for mechanical components and subsystems.
Work extended hours when required to meet critical proposal submission deadlines.
Travel to customer locations and supplier facilities as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Industrial Engineering or related field.
5 years of experience in estimating or designing material handling systems for automotive manufacturing.
Indepth knowledge of mechanical systems including EMS P&F skillet slat and vertical lift conveyors.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and plant layout optimization.
Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD SolidWorks etc.) and estimation tools.
Strong analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and efficiency in cost estimating.
Excellent communication presentation and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a Tier 1 automotive supplier or OEM environment.
Knowledge of project costing budgeting and scheduling tools.
Familiarity with robotic automation integration in conveyor systems.
Experience with international supply chain coordination or global sourcing.
