Job Description

The Research Services Technologist provides timely clinical care and management to a diverse population of lab animal species.

Research Services Technologist Hematology (Dr. Mitchell Weiss Lab)

About the Role:

Join Dr. Mitchell Weisss dynamic research team in the Department of Hematology at St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. We seek a highly motivated and skilled Research Services Technologist to provide expert clinical care and management for our diverse mouse models.

Our lab investigates the intricate process of hematopoiesis the formation of blood cells and its disruption in nonmalignant blood disorders with a specific focus on red blood cell development. We explore the roles of transcription factors epigenetic modifiers and noncoding RNAs in regulating celltypespecific gene expression.

As a key member of our team you will be responsible for executing in vivo projects from conception to completion utilizing your advanced mouse technical skills to drive our research forward. Your contributions will directly support our mission to understand and ultimately improve the treatment of blood disorders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical care and meticulous management for multiple animal models.
  • Execute in vivo experiments including dosing injections tissue collection and monitoring with precision and efficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively with researchers and other lab personnel to ensure project success.
  • Adhere to all animal care protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Contribute to the optimization and development of experimental protocols.
  • Perform assigned procedures within area (e.g. necropsy euthanasia; PK/PD projects & surgical procedures) as applicable.
  • Troubleshoot report and record any issues with equipment/processes within area.
  • Monitor own delivery for compliance with overall guidelines and SOPs.
  • Inform relevant stakeholders (e.g. researchers veterinarians) of findings and unusual observations/occurrences in a timely manner.
  • Maintain relevant documentation (e.g. medical records process logs files billing reports) as applicable for own area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Associates/Bachelors degree in Lab Animal Science Biology Toxicology or Agricultural preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum requirement: 4 years of experience in a professional animal care facility (e.g. Animal handling and restraint; animal health monitoring; operation and sanitization/sterilization of equipment; sample collection) with High School Diploma/GED OR 2 years experience with Associates degree OR no prior industry experience with Bachelors degree.
  • Prior experience within area preferred (e.g. animal handling and restraint; animal health monitoring; operation and sanitization/sterilization of equipment; sample collection) preferred/
  • Some experience working with software tools to maintain documentation/records preferred.

Licensure Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) American Association for Laboratory Animal Science required within 18 months.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets experience and training licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $22.00 $38.50 per hour for the role of Research Services Technologist Hematology (Dr. Mitchell Weiss Lab).
