RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential
- Tutor students who request assistance with writing or general study skills for any course.
- Maintain schedules for the Writing Desk.
- Maintain accurate accounts of physical tutoring resources and supplies informing supervisor and/or administrative assistant in a timely fashion when something needs to be replaced or has gone missing.
- Maintain physical and online writing resources (handouts website links etc.).
- Alert supervisor to any problems and/or concerns related to the writing lab or to the learning center in general.
- Model best practices of professional tutoring including maintenance of open communication with peer tutors and supervisor.
- Promote implementation of adopted learning center procedures.
- Participate in tutor training and other training as needed.
- Report progress of students to instructional staff when requested.
- Maintain the online tutor training: update materials and assessments synch them with the Tutor Handbook assess student tutor responses and track progress.
- Serve as a front desk receptionist (answering phone calls providing campus or community directions assisting patrons with computer or printing issues and generally helping to meet peoples needs).
- Arrive on time for work attend work regularly and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
- Comply with HutchCC policies procedures and practices.
Secondary
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Rimmer Support Services such as conducting seminars and workshops maintaining the RLRC webpage at working with ITS and Online Ed to maintain or improve online tutoring services and sharing the supervision of the center as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree required; Bachelors Degree with English emphasis preferred.
- The ability to direct student activities in an individual and small group setting required.
- Computer experience with support software preferred.
- Instructional or tutorial experience preferred.
- The ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with RLRC staff as well as HutchCC students faculty staff and administration.
- Physical requirements include but are not limited to excellent communication skills basic reading skills basic writing skills and basic math skills; manual dexterity to operate office equipment; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; visual acuity to view a computer terminal; Light/Indoor work environment

WAGE and STATUS:
The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This parttime support staff position is 30 hours per week during the academic year and 20 hours per week for eight weeks during the summer. This position is atwill nonexempt and is not benefit eligible except for KPERS retirement.
