Sentara Health is hosting a Security Officer Hiring Event for the Peninsula on Thurs May 22 2025 from 3pm 6pm at Sentara Port Warwick II.

Security Officers can be hired into full time and part time positions to support one of the following locations:
Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton VA
Sentara Port Warwick in Newport News VA
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg VA
Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification/Licensure: Valid Drivers License with an acceptable driving record; Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) must be successfully obtained within 90 days of hire.
Experience: One year of security experience; Former military law enforcement or security officer experience preferred; Deescalation and Physical Intervention training completed within 180 days of hire.
Overview
The Security Officer provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients visitors and employees at Sentara Hospitals and Freestanding Emergency Departments.
The Security Officer actively patrols campus and monitors activity in and around buildings and grounds and responds appropriately to routine and emergency situations. This individual performs camera surveillance maintains department logs and records uses computer skills for documentation of daily activities conducts security investigations evaluates situations and takes appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.
To bolster safety and security for our patients and team members Sentara has implemented a Fit for Duty assessment to ensure that our officers meet a minimum standard of fitness.
The fourpart assessment includes a response walk a stair climb a drag to safety and a lift.
