Job Description

Primary Purpose
The Public Safety Sergeant (Sac) will provide continuity in supervision of the department in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director. They will regularly supervise personnel associated with assigned shift and regularly performs all duties of a working Campus Public Safety Officer.

Essential Functions
Supervise personnel associated with assigned shift and other shifts as assigned. In conjunction with the Director or Assistant Director inspect officers going on duty for appearance and appropriate equipment evaluate work performance review paperwork completed by officers prior to going offduty create work schedules review and approve time sheets requests for vacations and other time off. Assists in the maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures for the Campus Public Safety department including but not limited to: compliance with the Clery Act Penal Code Education Code and University and Student Policies. Regularly performs all duties of a working Campus Public Safety Officer. May work overtime as needed to ensure shift coverage. Serves as first point of contact for Public Safety and Campus Security Officers. Assist the Director and/or Assistant Director in providing a training program for the department. Analyze security systems reports to ensure management programs are effective. Review preliminary and followup incident investigations to ensure adherence to department procedures. Review and assess information from daily reports. Initiate work orders; prepare invoices for payment and other general office duties. Function as the Director in the Directors absence. Perform all other duties as directed by the Director of Public Safety. Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED . Four (4) years of increased responsibility as a security officer public safety or law enforcement officer. One (1) year of experience in a supervisory position. Valid and current California BSIS Guard and Firearms permit. Valid and current California BSIS Baton permit. Valid Chemical Agent/Pepper Spray training certificate. Valid and current First Aid/ CPR / AED certification. Current 832 POST Training and/or POST Academy certificate within the last three (3) years and/or separation from a POST regulated agency within the last three (3) years. Current California driver license.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing available resources in a timely and effective manner under emergency conditions. Experience preparing accurate written reports. Experience conducting investigations interviews and use of appropriate auditing techniques. Experience providing training assistance and/or guidance to department officers; issue instructions and be responsible for the results. Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and internet. Ability to understand and interpret University general regulations and policies. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively verbal and in writing. Provide security information briefings to designated faculty and staff. Knowledge of physical security devices and computerized security systems. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty staff students and the public. Ability to assist with the implementation of security regulations and policies. Knowledge of criminal law laws of arrest search and seizure desirable. Knowledge of physical security devices and computerized security systems. Knowledge of security department administration and management. College courses in security criminal justice public safety computer skills and management courses. Current CPR /First Aid/ AED certified. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice equity and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Schedule
This position is a four (4) day work week with ten (10) hour workdays. Overtime may be required to ensure shift coverage and continuity.
