Position Summary
R.E.L.A.Y. Program Coordinator
The R.E.L.A.Y. Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting rising high school freshmen as they transition into their first year of high school. stands for Reach for your goals Elevate your mindset and skills Learn strategies that work Advocate for your needs and You are the driver of your futureis a high school bridge program designed to build academic readiness leadership socialemotional awareness and executive functioning skills among youth participants.
The Coordinator is responsible for instructing developing planning and facilitating a yearround curriculum that includes civic engagement career exploration media literacy and service learning. They will guide students through interactive workshops projectbased learning field trips across Chicago neighborhoods and regular socialemotional learning sessions that emphasize selfawareness advocacy and confidencebuilding.
This role involves close collaboration with high schools families and community partners as well as planning and executing a summer capstone project where youth present a visual display of their civic engagement learning. The Coordinator ensures that all programming is youthcentered culturally responsive and aligned with GCYCs broader Academic Success framework for holistic youth development. The coordinator is also responsible for the application and recruitment process interviewing youth candidates Cityspan updates and attendance.
Ideal candidates will be passionate about youth empowerment experienced in curriculum development and facilitation and committed to supporting students as they discover their voice identity and role within their community and beyond.
A Program Coordinator at the Gary Comer Youth Center is an essential piece of the ecosystem of programmatic staff. DA1DA2The Program Coordinator plays a key role in recruitment program execution and the maintenance and cultivation of strategic partnerships to
improve and strengthen their program areas offerings. With guidance from their supervisor the Program Coordinator executes daily programming specialty programs (e.g. field trips school holidays camps special events etc.) and advances their program area in support of our mission vision and values.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Program Operations:
- Executes program delivery for the GCYC community including curriculum development and procurement and collaboration between departments and program areas and with campus partners
- Recruits and retains youth in programs in their program area to ensure 100% enrollment and 80% average daily attendance
- Represents GCYC at external and internal events to recruit new members
- Ensures program delivery is equitable for all members considering all age groups genders races abilities and sexual orientations feel welcomed supported represented and have access to all programs and services
- Contributes to the organization and implementation of special activities/events and outofschooltime camps (e.g. winter break)
- Keeps abreast of current best practices research and trends in youth development and education to contribute to the development of staff and advancement of organizational practices
- Responsible for managing and executing deliverables and compliance for grants assigned
- Plans and implements programming per overall organizational goals methods and objectives (e.g. Quality Program Outline Daily Program Plan etc.). Utilizing and creating evidencebased and researched curriculum lesson plans and educational materials
- Manages the classroom through positive youth development practices
- Ensures the timely and accurate entry of data into internal data systems (e.g. Salesforce) as well as assigned external systems (e.g. Cityspan) for grant compliance.
- Responsible for special projects assigned by the direct supervisor the Center Director or the Executive Director.

Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree preferred.
- 13 years experience in roles working in youth development employment/workforce training or education of youth and young adults especially with individuals facing barriers to economic stability.
- Experience leading multiple programs in a nonprofit environment is strongly preferred.
- A proven commitment to delivering quality enrichment programs through documented work experience in program planning and execution.
