Description

This role focus on assisting the Track Starter by driving the starting gate vehicle at the beginning of each race. This is a seasonal position starting in early March and ending in late November.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist the starter by driving the starting gate vehicle

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: None

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide a fair start for each race.
  • Report violations of Indiana Horse Racing Commission rules occurring at the start of a race to the judges.
  • Recommend to the judges the assessment of fines and suspensions of licenses of drivers for any violation of Commission rules from the formation of the parade until the word go is given.
  • Will abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

SOCIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Must have an outgoing energetic and enthusiastic attitude. Must be comfortable initiating conversations and creating a fun environment with our guests.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

CERTIFICATIONS LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

Must be able to obtain and maintain a license from the Indiana Horse Racing Commission and a drivers license.
