Job Description

The Ohio Attorney Generals Office is currently seeking to fill a Compliance Examiner 1 position in our Charitable Law position will work a hybrid inperson/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is Columbus OH.


The Charitable Law Section performs several functions including: regulating Ohios charitable sector; investigating suspected charitable solicitation fraud and misappropriation of charitable funds; protecting and overseeing the proper administration of charitable trusts and associated entities conducting business in Ohio; ensuring that organizations comply with common law fiduciary duties the Charitable Trust Act (R.C. 109) and the Charitable Organizations Act (R.C. 1716); and licensing and regulating charitable gaming (bingo) (R.C. 2915). The Charitable Law Section has civil authority to pursue actions against individuals or organizations that violate applicable laws however on an as needed basis individuals in the section may occasionally assist internal or external law enforcement entities with criminal matters.

The duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • The successful candidate will review and process charitable and professional solicitor registrations and corresponding documents annual reports and fees.

  • Fields inquiries via phone and email and provides information and assistance to the public and collects data concerning charitable status and formation of charitable organizations and professional solicitors

  • Assists organizations with online account creation and troubleshooting user website issues. Researches and resolves routine and/or complex charitable and professional solicitor issues.

  • Processes registration forms annual financial reports and solicitation notices from charitable organizations and professional solicitors (e.g. checks registration forms solicitation notices and supplemental documents to ensure proper completion; reviews annual financial reports for accuracy; codes information).

  • Reviews documents to determine if charitable registration is required pursues noncompliant organizations and professional solicitors via phone calls mass mailings emails and targeted correspondence.

  • Collects and analyzes data concerning allegations of potential fraud and/or abuse; recommends organizations for investigation; assists in preparation for trial and/or hearing as necessary.

  • Maintains current listing of all registered charitable organizations and professional solicitors.

  • Updates demographic information and creates targeted compliance reports (e.g. veterans groups revoked organizations new charitable organizations).

  • Compiles and types a variety of reports including entering data onto spreadsheet and/or into database sorting data; forwards reports for further action.

  • Prepares and delivers educational presentations and conducts training seminars to associations foundations and others in the nonprofit community.

  • Assists with special projects.

  • Performs related clerical tasks.

Bachelors core program in business administration or related field; 12 months training or 12 months experience in using a personal computer (PC) and related software as described in the position description; 9 months training or 9 months experience in office practices and procedures; education in English grammar punctuation and editing of common English vocabulary.
