Food Services Supervisors/Cook serve to assist with the successful operation of the Food Services Ministry while supporting the team members guests volunteers and local community through Christfilled love and respect.
Hours of Availability: Casual; Weekends only ( 14 hours per week)
Every other Saturday 4:30 am 1:30 pm
Every other Sunday 4:30 am 9:30 am
Compensation: $14.00/hour (nonexempt)

Demonstrates a genuine interest in the safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members.
Understanding of volunteer engagement and ability to utilize and appreciate volunteers in daily tasks.
Strong work ethic and commitment to work as scheduled to include holidays and weekends as assigned.
Strong listening as well as written & verbal communication skills to execute instructions keep others informed and exhibit professionalism.
Demonstrated attention to detail/strong organizational skills to assist with multiple daily assignments and special projects.
Ambitious to exceed expectations.
Job Specific Qualifications:
- ServSafe certification; preferred or willing to obtain at company expense.
- Knowledge base of Kitchen Operation Equipment Volume Cooking & Food Safety.
- Ability to adapt menu based on current donations.
Working knowledge of local community resources.
- Compliance with Food Safety & Service standards.
- Willing to work flexible schedules as needed (all shifts weekends and holidays) .
Career Summary:
Serves in a variety of roles to provide seamless processes for providing meals to our guests and the local community. Ministers to the community by providing a safe clean and secure environment for food services. Performs food preparation and line cook duties as well as serves meals. Maintains freezer and assists in planning and organizing special events. Acting manager in Food Services Managers absence by providing support to the team members guests and volunteers. Dishwashing duties. Active engagement with volunteers guests team members and the local community.
All Rescue Mission of Roanoke team members may be asked to complete other duties as assigned by the leadership/management. Expectation is to complete these assignments as requested.
Physical demands essential to performing the job duties of this position (not an allinclusive list).
- Extensive periods of standing stooping turning twisting pushing and pulling objects up to 50 pounds; 100 pounds with assistance.
- Temperatures may vary depending on activity/events; indoor/outdoor exposure.
- Noise levels may vary depending on activity/event and/or location.
- Consistently Communicating with others to exchange information; verbally and/or electronically.
- Frequent Moving around to accomplish a task.
- Frequent exposure to cleaning with general chemicals.
- Occasional computer use; computer screen exposure.

Since 1948 the Rescue Mission has continued a tradition of comprehensive care to those in crisis in our community. The homeless the hungry the chemically addicted the impoverished and the hopeless have all found a warm welcome at the Rescue Mission.
Men women and children have found a safe place and compassionate friends in their darkest moments. The Rescue Mission is open 24 hours/day and 365 days/year and provides food clothing shelter an onsite clinic Recovery Program case management and aftercare services. All people in crisis are served regardless of race gender creed age or ethnicity.
In addition the Rescue Mission operates a Donation and Recycling Center 2ndHelpings Gallery and Shop Thrift 460 and has an online store presence. All proceeds from sales benefit the programs of the Rescue Mission.
