The Opportunity

Halifax Water is hiring for the job of Industrial Electrician in the Corporate Services Department. Industrial Electrician is responsible for maintenance troubleshooting and repair of electrical instrumentation and control system equipment in water and wastewater treatment facilities wastewater pumping stations valve chambers water booster stations CSO chambers reservoirs and all other facilities operated by Halifax Water.

What youll do

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong knowledge and understanding of arc flash and electrical safety. Complete electrical equipment lockout tagout for personal and group work activities. Verify energy isolation of electrical systems for personal and others safety.
  • Perform general care maintenance and safe operation of assigned equipment vehicle PPE and tools.
  • Utilize work management software for daily task tracking scheduling and time allocation. Complete tasks as assigned and maintain documentation for work history.
  • Read interpret and red line electrical drawings.
  • Utilize and follow Canadian Electrical Code NSPI Bulletins and best practices.
  • Assist in the installation startup and commissioning of new facilities equipment and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions and failures. Provide and implement remediation measures.
  • Recommend preventative electrical measures as needed for future planning scheduling and budgeting. Identify electrical equipment at high risk of failure and notify Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor.
  • Provide shortterm and longterm electrical solutions to maintain function of operational infrastructure.
  • Work on electrical systems that operate at low and high voltages up to and including 4160V.
  • Perform installations inspections sequence of operations troubleshooting repair and maintenance of all electrical and control systems infrastructure operated by Halifax Water. Electrical equipment including but not limited to conductors cables conduits control panels motor control centers motor control equipment electric motors over current devices power distribution service entrances backup generators transfer switches transformers grounding systems analog and discrete instrumentation control devices facility lighting/heating/ventilation/cooling systems and misc. electrical equipment.
  • Responsible for performing rotational standby duty including afterhours work unplanned and emergency responses as per operational requirements.
  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

What youll need

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Grade twelve or the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) equivalent.
    • Must be a licensed Industrial Electrician with a certificate of qualification in an Industrial Electrician trade issued under the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act.
  • Experience:
    • One year of experience as a journeyman industrial or construction electrician in an industrial setting.
    • Troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial power systems.
  • Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
    • A current certificate of qualification as an Industrial or Construction Electrician issued under the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act. Equivalency may be considered.
    • Must have a valid Nova Scotia Drivers License.
    • Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training:
      • First Aid
      • Globally Harmonized System (GHS) (Formerly WHMIS)
      • Additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements
