Job Description

Description

The CT Tech 1 arranges patients for Computed Tomography examinations. Produces CT images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Prevents patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation. Ensures patient safety by using preestablished imaging protocols and screens patients for safe administration of contrast media. Utilizes departmental policy to perform safe operation of equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Initially may require instruction and guidance to accomplish the job and should develop into performing work under general supervision.



Responsibilities
  • Clinical skills:
    • Radiologic principles and theory anatomy and pathology processes are demonstrated utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or position for optimal examinations as demonstrated by exam results.
    • Policies and protocols are adhered to ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation as demonstrated by exam results.
    • Radiography students are taught sound radiography principles as required by Organization as evidenced by documentation.
  • Patient/General Safety:
    • Effectively communicates with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient or patients chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination as evidenced by the exam results.
    • Procedures are explained to patients/families and technologist answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation as evidenced by customer satisfaction.
    • Assistance is provided to the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols isolation precautions and/or sterile technique as evidenced by physicians satisfaction.
    • Clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams are identified and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction.
    • Patient safety is demonstrated in department by use of side rails braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as evidenced by risk management reports.
    • The technologist reports documents and corrects any adverse unsafe or unusual conditions as evidenced by the patient/employee incidence reports.
    • The understanding of IVs heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Computed Tomography is demonstrated as evidenced by observations by supervisor and peers.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • An orderly safe and clean state environment is maintained and rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required with supplies readily available for procedures at all times.
    • Imaging and other related equipment is operated according to manufacturers specifications and performs daily calibration and adjustments as required and evidenced by exam results.
    • Equipment is troubleshot effectively and immediately and reports equipment problems to biomedical engineering/vendor as evidenced by service reports.
    • The need for routine maintenance of all CT equipment is recognized/performed to maintain consistent quality images as evidenced by the physician and the exam results.
  • Documentation/Communication:
    • Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies.
    • Patients are tracked according to department procedures and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections as evidenced by the RIS reports.
    • The technologist participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiative inservices and meetings as evidenced by attendance records.
  • Radiation safety:
    • Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies.
    • Patients are tracked according to department procedures and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections as evidenced by the RIS reports.
  • Other duties as assigned:
    • Acts as a backup for other technologists in the department as needed.
    • Additional duties as requested by managers/supervisors.


Qualifications
  • Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program
  • Good interpersonal/human relations skills; Good oral/written communication skills; Good teamwork skills; Good critical thinking/decision making skills; Superior organizational skills
  • License & Cert Current State License American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT (R) or Registry Eligible or current temp license and Basic Life Support BLS HCP
