System Requirements

Position Summary

Incumbents of positions in this series prepare and/or review scientific reports review transportation plans and related documents studies and analytical data of environmental impacts and environmental processes; perform calculations relating to environmental science problems; determine possible impacts on water soil and air; measure levels of pollution; identify sources of pollution; and perform related work as required. The basic purpose of this work is to perform professional environmental analysis and planning duties in such areas as stormwater design water quality mitigation and watershed management all in accordance with applicable laws rules regulations standards in addition to environmental principles and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is eligible for a fivethousand dollar ($5000) signing bonus (Signing Bonus) if you are newly hired at MassDOT. Current MassDOT employees are not eligible for the Signing Bonus. The Signing Bonus will be paid in two parts: 1) $3000 (less applicable taxes) included in the employees first paycheck. 2) $2000 (less applicable taxes) after the successful completion of the employees probationary period.

Applicants must have at least (A) five years of fulltime or equivalent parttime technical or professional experience in the field of environmental science biology chemistry earth science environmental health meteorology natural science toxicology or public health of which (B) at least three years must have been in a professional capacity and of which (C) at least one year must have been in a supervisory managerial or administrative capacity or (D) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the following substitutions.

Substitutions

I. An Associates degree with a major in the field of environmental science biology chemistry earth science environmental health meteorology natural science toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

II. A Bachelors degree with a major in the field of environmental science biology chemistry earth science environmental health meteorology natural science toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

III. A Graduate degree with a major in environmental science biology chemistry earth science environmental health meteorology natural science toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required (A) experience and one year of the required (B) experience.*

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

NOTE: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of one year of the required (B) experience. No substitutions will be permitted for the required (C) experience.
