Job Description

Blue Canyon Technologies RTXs small satellite manufacturer and mission services provider is solving some of the toughest challenges in space. Our components and bus platforms have completed missions ranging from verylow Earth orbits to lunar and interplanetary journeys at a fraction of the cost of traditional space systems. Position Purpose: The Sr. Thermal Facilities Engineer will be responsible for setup maintenance operation and design of the thermal and TVAC chambers across all BCT facilities. This engineer will be working in a team environment sometimes with remote team members engaging in test and support of flight spacecraft electronics. Development work will span writing documentations and/or manuals for proper operation of thermal systems thermal equipment design and assembly and operation of thermal test equipment.

Pay Range: $100000 $160000 (Salary to be determined by the education experience knowledge skills and abilities of the applicant internal equity and alignment with market data.)

Location: Lafayette CO

Job Responsibilities:

Operate thermal chambers and thermal vacuum chambers

Configure and calibrate thermal equipment and sensors

Troubleshoot issues with thermal test equipment and sensors

Track and maintain thermal facility equipment per a preventative maintenance schedule while keeping factory test schedule intact

Analyze outgassing measurements using an RGA

Design test equipment to be used in conjunction with thermal tests (DAQ modules relays

switches valves pressure sensors PLCs etc.)

Mentor and train other team members of the thermal facilities team

Write and execute procedures and / or checklists

Purchase and assemble required equipment for Environmental Test facilities

Track and order nitrogen (gas and cryogenic liquid)

Give effective presentations to the team and customers

Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department

Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment

Work with program planners/schedulers to forecast chamber conflicts

Perform thermal and TVAC testing for external customers

Assist with vibration and shock testing as needed

Other responsibilities as assigned

May include personnel management responsibilities.


Required Qualifications/Education:

7 years of experience with thermal chambers thermal vacuum chambers or related.

Experience with compact mass spectrometers (RGA)

Experience with data acquisition systems (Cosmos NI DAQ)

Experience with helium leak detection

Experience with cryogenics and highpressure gases and associated plumbing and fittings

Experience configuring and calibrating thermal equipment and sensors

Experience troubleshooting issues with thermal and vacuum test equipment (pumps compressors refrigeration systems sensors etc.)

Experience designing test equipment to be used in conjunction with thermal vacuum testing (DAQ modules relays switches valves pressure sensors etc.)

Experience with vibration testing and knowledge of the use and limitations of vibration exciters instrumentation data acquisition systems force transducers and accelerometers.

Experience with writing and executing procedures and / or checklists

Ability to work closely with engineering teams

Ability to work independently with some direction and to be a selfstarter

Strong interpersonal and communications skills

Shows initiative by demonstrating personal ownership of designs seeking input from the Systems and cross functional engineers

Can work autonomously views work with a critical eye prepares and gives peer reviews of work prior to critical milestones to peers

Ability to leverage existing designs to meet customer needs.

Collaborative and team focused

Strong verbal and written skills

Crane experience preferred

Excellent communication analytical communication organizational strategic and statistical skills

An effective sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced small company environment

Microsoft office products (Word Excel PowerPoint Visio etc.) Excel programming with VBA experience a plus

BS degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering or similar field.

Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.


Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers scanners filing cabinets and fax machines. BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the
notice was posted. However factors such as candidate flow and business necessity may require BCT to shorten or extend the application window.
