UNIV 101: The FirstYear Seminar

  • Position: Lecturer Academic Year
  • Semester: Fall 2025
  • Day/Time: Various meeting days/times

The Department of FirstYear & University Programs at California State University San Marcos seeks parttime lecturers for Fall 2025 to teach specialized sections of University 101: The FirstYear Seminar. This variableunit course is a firstyear seminar (college success course). Candidates should have experience working directly with students.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A masters degree
  • Demonstrated ability in working with students to facilitate their transition from high school to college.
  • Per the California State Universitys OutofState Employment Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSUrelated work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in education teaching and learning instruction and curriculum development or in the area of adult education.
  • Previous collegelevel teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students particularly firstgeneration students to facilitate their transition to the academic and social demands of college.
  • Understanding of CSU undergraduate general education requirements and ability to direct/guide students toward the necessary information/resources for developing an academic plan and career goals.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise related to CSUSMs Black Student & American Indian and Alaska Native Student Success Initiatives.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity inclusivity and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience:

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5507 $6677 per fulltime month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer A AY: $5507 $6677 per fulltime month
  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer B AY: $6221 $13224 per fulltime month
