Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic inhouse litigation team responsible for managing Cigna and Evernorths healthcare commercial and corporate litigation portfolio. This is a great development opportunity for a junior litigator to apply their skills to help Cigna and Evernorth accelerate a new more sustainable model of health care on a global scale as one integrated total health and wellbeing company.

This Counsel position is an individual contributor role that reports to the Associate Chief Counsel of Litigation.

This role is a great fit for a strategic selfstarter and creative thinker who likes to own challenging projects endtoend who thrives in a fastpaced environment and who is energized by working collaboratively to deliver the best practical solution to an issue.

As a member of the Litigation team an ideal candidate will be expected to:

  • Direct and manage all aspects of a varied litigation portfolio including investigation pleadings and discovery through the pretrial trial settlement and appeal processes;
  • Supervise and drive responses to third party subpoenas and requests for information issued by regulators other government entities and civil litigants;
  • Effectively direct and manage outside counsel;
  • Effectively manage litigation budgets;
  • Work collaboratively within the Legal Department (including Compliance Government Affairs and Communications colleagues) as well as business stakeholders;
  • Provide proactive solutionoriented advice and counseling to support and protect business goals and objectives in connection with prelitigation disputes;
  • Employ highly polished and effective communication listening and writing skills with a focus on interaction with and reporting to senior managers and executive leadership within a global and matrixed organization; and
  • Participate in and contribute positively to the Cigna Legal community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • J.D. degree and active Bar membership;
  • Minimum of 35 years of litigation experience at a top firm with the federal government and/or inhouse preferably in field of healthcare litigation;
  • Experience representing healthcare companies is a plus;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to present complex legal issues to nonlawyers;
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and the ability to maneuver through barriers and facilitate solutions;
  • Team focus;
  • Learning agility and intellectual curiosity; and
  • This role is Hybrid three days in an office is required.
  • Willingness to take on difficult projects.
  • Hybrid this role requires someone to be in office 3 days a week.


If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
