Job Description

As the districts first dual language high school Muiz Academy offers Bostons bilingual and Multilingual Learners students a holistic college and career preparatory education. Courses are standardsbased and taught in both Spanish and English with an emphasis of culturally relevant learning for all learners. Every student is expected to graduate with 21st century skills necessary to succeed in higher education and beyond. All students are members of a Crew (advisory group) and most faculty serve as Crew Leaders.

As an Innovation School Muiz Academy has the autonomy to rethink the typical school day and year for students additional planning and professional development for teachers. The regular school day runs from 8:30am3:30 pm Monday to Thursday; on Fridays students schedules are from 8:30 to 1:00 pm and staff from 8:30 to 3:00 pm with professional development from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The school year is similar to the Boston Public Schools but the actual school calendar may differ in terms of professional days for teachers and other work expectations.

Reports to:Head of School

Description:

The Director of Operations and Student Support manages the nonacademic operations of the school and guides the Student Support staff. They are responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the school and for coordinating support services for all students.

Primary Responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Member of the Admin Team
  • Supports the admin team in creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment
  • Leads the Community and Culture Committee and coordinates and plans schoolwide events for students families and other stakeholders in the community
  • Leads the Attendance Team and manages all attendance interventions
  • Leads the daytoday operations of the school in areas including coverage transportation supervision of arrival dismissal lunch and facilities
  • Works with schoolbased and districtlevel facilities staff to address facilities concerns and ensure a safe and welcoming school
  • Supports the Head of School with budgeting and purchasing
  • Works with the Head of School to facilitate Family Council
  • Supervises a team of noninstructional staff
  • Supports logistics for all testing
  • Supports the Head of School with reports compliance scheduling and communication

Student Support:

  • Collaborates with Social Workers Family Liaisons and Community Field Coordinators to engage families and support students
  • Administrative lead for grades 9 and 10
  • Supports discipline for grades 9 and 10
  • Facilitates the 9th and 10th grade Student Support Team meeting

Qualifications Required:

  • Education: Bachelors degree
  • Minimun 3 years of related work experience
  • Current authorization to work in the United States Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
  • Demonstrated commitment to schools mission vision and core values
  • The ability to make a minimum of a twoyear commitment
  • Fluency in Spanish

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Prior experience working in a duallanguage school
  • Previous experience with staff supervision



TERMS: Managerial Tier C

NOTE: Schoolbased managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223day workyear will include the 180 days in which school is in session and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or school leader of the school.Schoolbased managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather schoolbased managerial employees need not report to work.
