Job Description

To assist the Supervisor of Special Services substantially and effectively in thetask of providing leadership in developing achieving and maintaining the best possible specialeducation programs and special services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


The minimum performance expectations include but arenot limited to the following functions/tasks:

  • Ensure the provision of a free appropriate public education for all children with disabilities ages 2 to 21 inclusive.
  • Assist the Supervisor of Special Education with the supervision and coordination of the procedures to identify locate evaluate and place children with disabilities in appropriatespecial education programs.
  • Coordinate day treatment and residential program intakes and services.
  • Coordinate the online IEP program and assist teachers in the implementation of the program.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to address educational issues.
  • Serve as a special education liaison on various community and divisionwide committees.
  • Assist the Supervisor of Special Education in the supervision of special services staff.
  • Provide guidance to teachers and school level administrators concerning discipline and classroom accommodations/modifications.
  • Read and check for federal and state law compliance of IEPs and eligibility reports.
  • Collate and analyze data for local state and federal reports.
  • Collaborate with the transportation department to address special transportation needs of students with disabilities.
  • Other assigned duties by the Supervisor of Special Education
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with theschool/system policies and practices.


Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees the work and behavior of all personnel and students within postions level.

Special Requirements: Must possess demonstrated leadership qualities andcharacteristics necessary for working effectively with students staff administrators and parents.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essentialfunctions.

Education and/or Experience: Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college of universitywith endorsement as an Elementary School Principal or Administration/Supervision K12.

Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of educational principles practices and procedures;
thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching and administration;thorough knowledge of school division rules regulations and procedures; ability to establish andmaintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; hasability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff students parents andcommunity members.

Special Requirements: Must possess demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristicsnecessary for working effectively with students teachers and parents as attested to by the DivisionSuperintendent of Schools. Candidate must possess good moral character.


Language/Communications: Ability to read analyze and interpret policies laws and should have the ability to write reports to compose correspondence and to develop writtenpolicy and procedures. Also the employee should have the ability to effectively present information andrespond to questions from audiences supervisors and the school board.

Physical Demands: Duties performed typically in school settings to include: school office
classrooms gym cafeteria auditorium and recreational areas. Frequently walking standingstooping lifting up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and /orweighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities arerequired. Occasional travel with students and or staff may be necessary. Vocal communication isrequired for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required toperceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing andanalyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work andobserving general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outsideenvironmental conditions noise and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs andother mechanical devices may be required. Regular contact with special needs children is contact with staff members students parents and community members is contact with medical professionals may be required.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the aboveresponsibilities by the Supervisor of Special Services.
