The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for an anticipated Full Time Library Aide position based atJackson Primary School; subject to the determination of the Superintendent. This is a 7 hour 185 day position based on school year calendar and is subject to the minimum requirements listed on the Job Description below which include but are not limited to a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required. PostSecondary work toward a degree is preferred. Verifiable knowledge of and experience with Destiny Software is preferred. Qualifications for this position shall be based upon applicable verified work experience verified educational/training/credentials and the Districts defined qualifications for the position. Ability to receive a passing score on a jobspecific skills assessment may be required. JOB DESCRIPTION Library Aide

Basic Functions:

This position is clerical/instructional support position which is responsible for organizing library books supplies equipment and material and providing support services for students utilizing library services. This position requires a knowledge of library procedures and practices and the ability to communicate this information to students and staff.

Education & Experience:

This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent). Postsecondary work toward a degree is preferred. Knowledge of and/or experience with library services is preferred.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

This position requires demonstrated patience and the ability to relate to students parents and teachers in a manner that develops student confidence in benefiting from the educational process. This position requires considerable knowledge of English and spelling. This position requires the ability to explain library procedures to students and staff. This position requires familiarity with computer and software applications in a library setting. This position requires the ability to understand and adjust to changes in the educational environment.

Authority & Responsibilities: (E) Designates Essential Functions

  1. Provides general library information to students and faculty regarding the location and/or use of any library services. (E)
  2. Checks out renews or checks in books for library patrons and prepares overdue notices. (E)
  3. Computes library circulation and other statistics shelves books searches for and returns missing books and files. (E)
  4. Prepares and maintains records in the audiovisual area. (E)
  5. Inputs information into computer files updates information and generates reports as necessary. (E)
  6. Assists the librarian teachers and principal in scheduling availability of the library facilities for student use. (E)
  7. Assists the teaching staff in enforcing library rules and regulations. (E)
  8. Receives incoming periodicals or materials and files and/or replaces literature. (E)
  9. Communicates effectively (orally and in writing) with administrators staff students and the public. (E)
  10. Is able to speak and write in a clear and concise manner. (E)
  11. Operates office equipment including but not limited to fax machine copiers computers telephones intercom systems etc. (E)
  12. Maintains confidentiality of all business related information. (E)
  13. Performs other related functions as directed by the building principal teacher and/or designee.

Elementary JobSpecific Assignments:

  1. Checksin/out/renews books on a daily basis. (E)
  2. Maintains orderly book shelves. (E)
  3. Repairs replaces barcodes spine labels etc. as necessary. (E)
  4. Schedules story times each week. (E)
  5. Issues overdue notices to students weekly. (E)
  6. Sends letters to parents/guardians regarding long overdue books. (E)
  7. Contacts parents/guardians via telephone (as necessary) regarding overdue/damaged books. (E)
  8. Collects/deposits money for book replacement and fines and submits a report to the DSC. (E)
  9. Maintains computer files for tracking library usage patron updates/withdrawals bibliographies etc. (E)
  10. Maintains bulletin boards and hall displays. (E)
  11. Assists students with research internet usage power library world books on line and other library resources. (E)
  12. Assists students with library procedures. (E)
  13. Maintains Accelerated Reader records: reading level quiz number and quiz orders. (E)
  14. Monitors student behaviors in the library. (E)
  15. Assists teachers with subject preparation as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

MEDIUM: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Auditory and Visual Requirements:

Within normal ranges with or without correction.

Equipment Used:

Office equipment such as computers fax machines telephones copiers etc.
