Job Description

NEBH is a premier orthopedic hospital specializing in joint replacement and complex spine surgery. Technologists assist by performing very
unique exams specified by surgeons. Responsibilities also include
performing imageguided procedures in a timely manner and specific to departmental goals and objectives. Responsible for maintaining all
necessary regulatory logs pertaining to operation of equipment and care of patients. May be required to perform administrative duties in line
with workflow and patient throughput. Practices ALARA principle. Call and holiday shift rotation required per department needs.

Job Description:

CT SCAN TECHNICIAN

1. Advocates for all New England Baptist Hospital locations and promotes the hospitals mission to transform the lives of those we serve by promoting wellness restoring function lessening disability alleviating pain and advancing knowledge in the musculoskeletal diseases and related disorders.

2. Patient Care

Verifies patients I.D. using 2 patient identifiers

Verifies demographic and clinical information on the requisition and presence of written order Verifies demographic and clinical information from the requisition is accurate on the imaging device prior to performing first image

Obtains additional history as needed Greets patients upon arrival and responsible for their care until discharge or appropriate handoff to other clinic service/personnel

Assesses patients physical and mental condition and ability to tolerate exams and procedures

Modifies approach to patient care delivery as needed according to patient condition

Exercises confidentiality with respect to patient information

Ensures and mentors students to practice same process

3. CT Exams/Procedures/Tracking process

Performs requested exams in a time frame consistent with departmental and institutional quality standards

Consistently and accurately positions patients for each radiographic projection requested. Consistently and accurately determines and adjusts exposure factors required to produce a diagnostic image for every exam requested.

Ensures RIS exam data is correct prior to completion of tracking steps (including appropriate exam type performed for accurate billing updated clinical information if applicable)

Ensures all images have reached PACS prior to performing the Release study tracking step

Ensures all tracking steps are performed in a timely fashion as to not delay the official report creation on radiologic exams

Ensure student workflow is congruent to this practice

4. Equipment

Consistently and accurately operates scanners for every exam to ensure continued equipment functionality

Reports any equipment issues in a timely fashion to management

For urgent matters places service call to vendors to expedite timely service repair

5. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of human anatomical structure crosssectional anatomy physiological function and pathology.

6. Consistently practices proper aseptic or sterile technique during appropriate exams/procedures.

Ensures students practice proper techniques in same scenarios

7. Radiation Safety

Monitors radiation delivery

Utilizes standard Radiation safety practice of Time Distance and shielding for all exams

Reviews own personal radiation exposure monitoring reports to keep exposure within required parameters

Ensures self and student adherence to ALARA

8. Nonimaging functions: Acts as a resource/liaison between physicians and their staff interacts with other departments patients and their families as well as students who do their clinical rotations

Shares responsibility for transporting patients.

Performs clerical duties when necessary to assist with the workflow/throughput of patients

Exercises initiative in assisting other sections of the department.

May be required to obtain necessary competency or certification to support nonimaging functions

Exemplifies the role in Radiology by setting the example of professional conduct

Acts as mentor and helps to guide students in their clinical

9. Maintains competencies (role specific) required for licensing regulatory bodies and organization

Required Qualifications:

Associates degree in Radiologic Technology required.

Licensed as a Radiologic Technologist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

ARRTCT Certification required.

13 years related work experience required.
