Description

The University of North Alabamas Department of Music invites applications for a fulltime Visiting Assistant Professor of Music/Visiting Associate Director of Bands beginning August 15 2025.The Department of Music is a proud member of the UNA School of the Arts alongside wonderful colleagues from the departments of Cinematic Arts and Theatre Visual Art & Design and Entertainment Industry.Located in the Shoals known for its rich musical heritage and vibrant creative community the UNA Department of Music cultivates musicians equipped to contribute to the world stage.

The successful candidate will be expected to excel in actively assisting the Director and Assistant Director of Bands in all aspects of marching and concert band rehearsals administration planning conducting creative work and logistics as a team of directors; maintain excellence in teaching applied lessons perform recruiting activities for the band program and department; serve on departmental/university committees; attend faculty and other relevant meetings; mentor and provide academic advising to students in the department. Preference will be given to those who have the ability to teach applied trumpet.

The initial review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled. For full consideration applications must be received by June 1 2025. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Essential Job Duties

The successful candidate will assist the Director and Assistant Director of Bands in marching and concert band rehearsals administration planning conducting creative work and logistics as a team of directors; teach applied trumpet; recruit students; serve on departmental and university committees; mentor and provide academic advising to students in the department; and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A terminal degree in music is preferred; however ABD candidates close to completion of a doctorate may be considered for the position but at the rank of Visiting Lecturer. Experience in teaching collegiatelevel band and experience in teaching collegiatelevel applied trumpet and in the marching arts is preferred.

Official transcripts for the highest degree attained are required of the successful candidate but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process. If any of your graduate hours in the relevant teaching discipline are taken from a degree(s) that is not your highest attained an official transcript of that degree(s) mustalso be submitted. Electronic copies if available of unofficial transcripts may be attached under the attachment headings of Unofficial Transcript 1 Unofficial Transcript 2 etc.

Electronic copies of unofficial/official transcripts may also be requested to be sent to. If electronic copies of transcripts are unavailable hard copies must be sent to: Human Resources One Harrison Plaza UNA Box 5043 Florence AL 35632 or brought to 601 Cramer Way Room 226. Official transcripts must be sent directly to HR from the issuing school via email or postal mail to be considered official. Transcripts with a designation of Issued to Student or with the student name listed as the recipient will not be considered official. Official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate prior to the start date of the appointment but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process.
