Job Description

Overview:

The mission of the Mayors Office of Housing (MOH) is to make Boston a more equitable and inclusive city where all residents can thrive. MOH oversees programs that create and preserve affordable housing support homeowners and renters provide housing and services to homeless individuals and families and develop cityowned property. MOH seeks to carry out its mission through a lens of promoting diversity equity and inclusion and addressing the effects of systemic racism in our city.

The Mayor has consistently stated that housing affordability in Boston is one of the top challenges the City must address. The Fellow will have a unique opportunity to analyze issues related to housing affordability and to create strategies and provide recommendations to the Chief of Housing and other senior leaders within the administration. In fulfilling these responsibilities the Fellow will have an immediate opportunity to shape housing policy real estate development and neighborhood stabilization priorities that will improve the lives of Bostonians and shape the future of Bostons neighborhoods.

Responsibilities:

  • Works on projects that help the department implement Mayor Wus housing policy and analyzes issues related to housing affordability.
  • Researches and conducts data analysis in support of policy development or policy evaluation related to one or more of MOHs missionrelated topics such as housing real estate management/sales and/or neighborhood and community development.
  • Summarizes their analysis and recommendations in memos presentations and/or reports for senior staff at MOH.
  • Effectively communicates data findings to other members of the Policy Development and Research team and collaborates with them to develop policy.
  • Project manages data projects and works both independently and collaboratively.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree completed or a related Masters degree or higherlevel program preferred.
  • Experience processing and analyzing data with intermediate experience in Excel required.
  • Experience with PowerBi (or other BI software) spatial analysis tools (ArcGIS) and working with the Census Bureaus Public Use Microfile data preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must be organized and have high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and Google Suite.
  • Familiarity with housing and community development data and policy issues preferred.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: nonunion temporary
Hours Per Week: 35

Please note that the Mayors Office of Housing (MOH) employees and their immediate family members (i.e. employees parent siblings children or spouse) are prohibited from buying or leasing City Involved Housing with the exception of applicants living in City Involved Housing at the time of hire at MOH. Please refer to the Policy on Employee Participation in MOHAdministered Programs.
