Job Title: Parish Secretary Location: Saint Mary of Redford Catholic Church Detroit MI Reports To: Pastor Employment Type: FullTime FLSA Status: NonExempt (eligible for overtime) Position Summary: Saint Mary of Redford Parish in Detroit seeks a welcoming organized and professional Parish Secretary to support the daily operations of the parish office. As the first point of contact for parishioners and visitors the Parish Secretary plays a key role in fostering a hospitable environment. This fulltime role involves a broad range of administrative duties and requires collaboration with the parish priestin solidum/Moderator parish ministries volunteers and the bookkeeper from Parish Accounting Services and the Family of Parish priests directors and committees to ensure smooth and accountable parish operations. Key Responsibilities: - Greet and assist visitors parishioners and callers with warmth and professionalism
- Maintain the parish calendar including scheduling of Mass intentions meetings facility use and parish events
- Prepare edit and distribute the weekly parish bulletin announcements and other communications
- Maintain accurate and uptodate sacramental records (baptisms marriages funerals etc.) in accordance with Archdiocesan guidelines
- Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence including phone calls emails and mail
- Order and manage office and liturgical supplies
- Provide administrative support to the pastor and parish staff
- Assist with parish mailings event logistics and coordination of liturgical functions
- Enter and track weekly offertory and other contributions; assist with donation records and reports
- Collaborate with the bookkeeper from Parish Accounting Services by providing timely and accurate records reports and supporting documentation for financial processing
- Maintain confidentiality at all times especially regarding parishioner information and financial data
Qualifications: - Practicing Catholic in good standing preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or administrative certification a plus
- At least two years of administrative or office support experience; experience in a parish or nonprofit setting preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Publisher Outlook)
- Familiarity with parish or church management software (e.g. ParishSOFT) preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized detailoriented and capable of managing multiple priorities
- Trustworthy discreet and able to maintain strict confidentiality
- Friendly collaborative and missionoriented
Work Environment: This is a fulltime onsite position in the parish office during regular weekday hours. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support parish events or liturgies.
