Carpenter Job DescriptionCLASS DESCRIPTIONUnder the general supervision of the Facilities and/or Assistant Facilities Director perform journeylevel work in the design construction repair and maintenance of structures and related physical facilities Carpenter is responsible for the full range of rough and finished skilled carpentry work including but not limited to erect install and repair structures and fixtures of wood plywood and wallboard using carpenters hand tools and power tools. Incumbents work from blueprints specifications drawings and instructions to design build remodel retrofit maintain and repair various types of facilities and structures Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations inspect related work by contractors. estimate cost time and materials for carpentry projects. participate in the maintenance and operation of the carpenter DUTIES AND constructs retrofits and repairs interior and exterior structures made of wood drywall plaster concrete or constructs retrofits and repairs cabinets tables shelves benches partitions flooring doors and window frames and other types of furniture. May install and repair modular specifications for blueprints sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials or cut materials to specified measurements using hand tools machines or power and mark cutting lines on materials using a rules pencil chalk and marking structures or fixtures such as windows frames flooring trim or hardware using carpenters hand or power damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace using hand and/or power ceiling or floor tile wall coverings siding glass or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures replace as and installs metal doors and masonry wood and metal rough related work as required such as building maintenance and snow removal operationsKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIESThorough knowledge of materials methods tools and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry in a commercial/industrial setting. Knowledge of applicable building and safety code requirements. Knowledge of methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools machinery and equipment. Ability to design build install and repair structural woodwork flooring ceilings and cabinetry. Ability to estimate cost time and materials of carpentry projects. Ability to read and understand blueprints work orders safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure to interact effectively with the public vendors management and employees at all levels of the organization. Ability to repair and install metal doors and masonry wood and metal rough QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or GED equivalent; or graduation from a Trade or Vocational School Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years as a journeylevel carpentry in a residential commercial industrial or facilities operations setting including rough and finished carpentry. Advanced knowledge of tools equipment and materials used in the carpentry trade. The employee is regularly exposed to all weather conditions especially hot humid warm spring summer and fall weather combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
