Primary Responsibilities
This temporary intern project at the Archives of the Big Bend ( ABB ) will revolve around the complete processing of the Don Burgess Collection including rehousing assessments findingaid creation and longterm digitization and/or outreach plans for the collection. The purpose of this project is twofold. First it offers the opportunity to process a complex collection from beginning (boxlisting and condition assessment) to end (publication of the finding aid and development of longterm plans for the collection). Secondly it allows the Archives a muchneeded second pair of eyes and hands to evaluate the secondary value of the collection process the collection and make it searchable and available to researchers much sooner than our current workflow and staff availability allows. The project breaks down into three phases (4weeks 4 weeks and 2 weeks). The first takes place onsite and consists of reviewing our donorcreated inventory of the collection and comparing it to the boxed contents through folderlevel box lists. While doing so the employee will be assessing the condition of the materials any risks or special housing needed and assessing the collections secondary value to potential researchers and the Archives existing collections insofar as addressing known the employee is particularly targeting and will gain an indepth and holistic understanding of the daily considerations decisions and tasks necessary when appraising and processing a new collection.
