Job Description
The Department of General Education invites applications for contract lecturer positions in the area of Community & Society commencing September 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering foundation level course(s):
- GNED 1302: Building Communities in a Changing World
- GNED 1303: Conflict and the Social Context
- GNED 2303: Peacebuilding Foundations and Practices
The Department of General Education delivers the General Education component within all of Mount Royals baccalaureate degrees. The General Education component is organized around four thematic clusters. The courses in the Community & Society cluster focus on the interconnections that constitute social life from the level of the local community through the globalized network of societies. Through the study of material moral and political factors informing society at all levels students will have the opportunity to acquire skills enabling them to both understand and act in the world that they will be inhabiting as citizens. The courses in this cluster are shells with instructors being expected to provide content on a relevant topic in an area they are experts in.

Qualifications:
- For GNED 1302 and 1303 successful candidates must have minimum of an M.A. in a social science background or equivalent with a Ph. D. preferred.
- For GNED 2303 successful candidates must have minimum of an M.A. in a social science background preferablywith an academic specialization in Peace Studies (theories of peace conflict resolution mediation and/or transitional justice). A Ph.D. is preferred.
- We are especially interested in a qualified candidate with a welldeveloped understanding of liberal education in general and able to identify and address key debates under the Clusters thematic orientation requiring the methods of the social sciences for possible response or remedy to various global and social challenges.
