  • The Computer Science major teacher requires a professional certification/licensure in Computer Science Math or Business. Prior experience with programming is needed and certification in AP Computer Science Principles is encouraged. Candidates should have a CATE/Occupational/Vocational teacher certification or be willing to begin the state CATE certification immediately and complete the expectations for certification within five years of date hired.

    Job Title: High School Computer Science CATE Teacher
    Supervisor: Reports to the Building Principal or other appropriate School Administrator
    Terms of Employment: 190 days

    Job Summary:
    The Computer Science CATE teacher will work with Junior and Senior level students who have chosen to participate in the Major Program of study at AAST. The Computer Science CATE teacher will facilitate the instruction of students with a desire to pursue careers in Computer Science including Computer Systems Analyst and Software Developer. The teacher will seek out opportunities for students to participate in local regional and national projects and contests as well as local shadowing and internship experiences. The teacher will maintain the Technical Advanced Placement agreement with Horry Georgetown Technical College so that students have the opportunity to earn credit hours at that institution; additionally this teacher will need to serve on the HGTC Advisory Board as well as maintaining a CATE Advisory Board for the Computer Science Major at AAST. As a teacher at a program school in Horry County teacher will need to participate in all aspects of student recruitment including Open House events application review and student interviews. Key skills needed for this position include timemanagement prioritization and communication skills strong writing skills creativity teamwork the ability to meet deadlines extensive knowledge and experience with social media platforms and the ability to plan manage and execute initiatives.

    The Computer Science major is designed to focus on the understanding and design of computers and computational processes. Students enrolled in this major will think both concretely and abstractly to solve problems that require creativity careful reasoning and precision. This major spans theory and major explores the design and operation of computer hardware and software by developing problemsolving skills and the ability to apply computational thinking to realworld problems.

    Essential Duties
    • Facilitating instruction for high school students in the Computer Science Major Program specifically as it pertains to the scaffolded skill acquisition in the following areas: humancomputer interaction programming geographic information systems and cyber security.
    • Ability tocombine skills from several disciplines including computer science and design and to model collaboration.
    • Help studentsdevelop soft skills including leadership collaboration effective communication problem solving work ethic adaptability and interpersonal skills.
    • Create lessonsfocusing on programming and coding app and website development robotics cyber securitycomputer forensics and geographic information systems so that students will be prepared for further study the fastpaced world of technology.
    • Facilitate workbasedlearning experiences through mentoring field trips and internships which allow students to showcase their education while gaining valuable experience.
    • Recruit new students to the major by attending
    • Open House events and recruitment events.

    Other Duties
    Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

    Job Specifications
    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Districts policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required)
    • BachelorsDegree or Higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
    • Certificationas required by the state of South Carolina in the Computer Science Math or Business.
    • Eligible forCATE/Occupational/Vocational teacher certification.
    • A minimum of4 years of industry experience and/or professional license.
    • AP ComputerScience certification preferred.

    Physical Requirements
