HVAC Mechanic

The Albemarle County Department ofBuilding Servicesis actively recruiting aHVAC Mechanicto join our team. The successful candidate will install maintain and repair heating and air conditioning equipment for assigned school buildings.
Essential functions and responsibilities ofHVAC Mechanicinclude but are not limited to the following:
- Installs new equipment and inspects third party installations;
- Performs preventive maintenance and direct maintenance to all HVAC systems;
- Checks and repairs refrigeration and Kitchen equipment;
- Checks and lubricates all exhaust fans and
- Performs preventive maintenance on all compressors in school division;
- Drains old compressors labels and dates units by school compressor model and serial number and disposes by EPA protocol.
- Maintains all refrigerated air dryers to insure proper pressure and temperature;
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on chillers of all types and cooling towers;
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on High Efficiency Boilers
- Performs maintenance on all filters;
- In cooperation with supervisor of maintenance purchases parts and equipment needed for the division;
- Makes recommendations for conservation of energy;
- Performs related duties as required;
- Supervision may be exercised over assigned helpers;
- Required to work at heights up to 60
- Performs related tasks as required.
Qualifications:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Journeyman Licensure or higherora minimum of 4 years of experience HVAC/Refrigeration or commercial HVAC/Refrigeration maintenance and repair. Position requires considerable knowledge of the HVAC field particularly with heating and air conditioning systems and refrigeration systems. Must have or complete EPA certification for refrigerant transition and recovery and maintain records. Position requires the ability to read building plans wiring diagrams electrical and automation schematics. Basic computer and keyboarding skills will be required as well as the ability to communicate effectively with others. The position will troubleshoot problems assume responsibility for the installation and maintenance of assigned equipment all while working independently without direct supervision. Must have a Valid VA Drivers License.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations such as snow inclement weather or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours 7 days a week for emergency situations including weather and other building emergencies.
Physical Conditions & Nature of Work Contacts:Regular contacts made with individuals from: (a) other internal organization units; (b) outside organizations; and the general public for purposes of exchanging factual information which requires some judgment or interpretation in order to be responsive to questions or applicable to a specific situation. Communication is usually cooperative in nature with most conflicts resolved by higher authority. Performance of more strenuous physical tasks such as: walking over rough or uneven surfaces; (b) bending or stooping; working in confined spaces; or (d) lifting or carrying items weighing 2050 pounds with occasional lifting of items weighing over 100 pounds. Complex operation of gasoline diesel or electricpowered machinery or shop equipment requiring the manipulation of multiple controls or fine adjustments. Exposure to potentially disabling/nondisabling injuries or illnesses. May be required to operate mowing equipment including gas and diesel mowers tractors weed eaters chain saws and snow moving equipment.
Salary:The salary range for this position is $20.14 $26.00 per hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum experience and internal equity.
