POSITION: Program Coordinator AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) and Family and Community Engagement
POSITION GUIDE: Certified Personnel
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and the Director of School Improvement and Professional Learning the AVID and Family and Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the implementation and growth of the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)program within Joliet Public Schools District 86. The AVID and Family and Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for implementing the family engagement framework from the Illinois State Board of Education with fidelity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide leadership training and support to educators while ensuring that applicable programs align with district goals and foster a college and careerready culture for students.
- Provide building support to the AVID instructional staff and administration in the implementation and practice of AVID strategies
- Oversee sitebased AVID implementation (systems structures curriculum and AVID professional learning) to ensure consistent use of the AVID strategies to promote college readiness for students
- Collaborate with teachers administrators and families to foster a career and/or collegegoing culture and develop initiatives within the school to increase college and career readiness among AVID students.
- Organize and coordinate and facilitate professional development opportunities and AVID training for teachers counselors and administrators to enhance effective instructional practices.
- Foster and implement a communication system to ensure family and community engagement events and resources for schools for the successful longterm implementation of AVID programming.
- Organize and Oversee the implementation of student events scholastic competitions and other relevant curricular events as assigned
- Provide support and feedback to AVID educators
- Monitor student progress and analyze AVID program data to drive improvement.
- Facilitates site team meetings and meetings for AVID Summer Institute; Provides input at PLC meetings for AVID elective teachers.
- Participate in developing researchbased activities to promote positive and supportive relations between the community and the schools.
- Support parent/family and community organizations. Enhance communication with families and community agencies.
- Organize attend and facilitate monthly parent/family liaison network meetings and collaborate with specialized community parent/family groups
- Provide caregiver education opportunities based on the family engagement framework.
- Monitor the Title I parent documentation for compliance and assist buildings with planning and approval of events that satisfy Title requirements
- Perform any additional duties/tasks as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction or Designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
- Masters degree from an accredited college or university with training in administration supervision and/or other educationrelated area.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate administrative endorsement (ie: Principal Superintendent etc.)
- Valid Appropriate Illinois credentials to evaluate certified staff
EXPERIENCE:
- Three years of successful educational leadership administrative or program supervisory experience is preferred
- Four years of successful teaching or related service experience is required (ie: school counselor social worker etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with the implementation of AVID instructional strategies and methodologies.
- Background in professional development or instructional coaching preferred in addition to experience motivating and counseling students

- Knowledgeable of Effective School Research ISBEs School Improvement Process Family Engagement Framework impactful Adult Professional Learning methods and the AVID strategies.
- Evidence of instructional leadership with a strong commitment to academicexcellence with high expectations of students and staff.
- Strong background in core content with experience with multitiered systems of support and data analysis.
- An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations and a studentfocused continuous improvement model;
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction at the elementary and junior high/middle school level;
- Ability and flexibility to work with limited supervision in a fastpaced environment with frequent interruptions
- Effective skills in gathering information in order to respond to questions inquiries and/or complaints as well as assist in the resolution of conflict with courtesy tact and respect.
- Demonstrated excellence as an educational leader with strong organizational problem solving and human relations skills;
- Actively promotes the belief that all students can learn and advocates for equitable learning opportunities within a rigorous curriculum for all students especially those from traditionally underserved or marginalized populations.
- Effective verbal and written communication collaboration and interpersonal skills with a record of building relationships that foster collegial trust promote teacher efficacy and family engagement and motivate others to aspire to high expectations and accountability with a common instructional focus;
- A positive attitude toward the role and flexibility as an innovative team builder;

- Evidence of regular engagement and desire to continue professional learning implementation and reflection in the areas of curriculum child development equitable practices and instructional methods in the junior high school;
- Experience with the integration of instructional technology to enhance the delivery of learning and current knowledge of technology tools appropriate to the role;
- Knowledge of District policies Local policies State and Federal laws relating to students schools and instruction
- Understanding of the range of services and requirements to meet the needs of a diverse student population including special education enrichment and multilingual services and demonstrated use of strategies for ensuring practice of the same;
- The vision compassion and enthusiasm for effective team leadership to motivate high standards addressing achievement gaps and continuous improvement;
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Spanish is strongly preferred
- Record of accountability in project management including preparing and maintaining accurate records and meeting strict deadlines

- Ability to travel from building to building and within the local community as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Minimum annual base salary for this position is $ 83453 to be determined by the Superintendent based on experience and credentials. In addition to salary this position offers fringe benefits including but not limited to Board Contribution to the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) health dental vision and life insurance. This is a 12month certified administrative nonbargaining position. FLSA Exempt Status.
EVALUATION:Performance of this role will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Illinois School Code related to Principal evaluation.
