Reporting to the Senior Producer Olympic and Paralympic Editorial Lead the Senior Researcher is responsible for conducting detailed editorial research to support the Content Production Unit (CPU).
This role is central to CBC/RadioCanadas multiplatform Olympic and Paralympic content strategy with a strong focus on original storytelling. Through proactive and purposeful research the Senior Researcher enhances broadcast presentations augments partner value expands our digital footprint and boosts social media engagementall while reflecting the power of sport and the value of storytelling.
Collaborating with editorial leads across the organization the Senior Researcher undertakes assignments that require critical analysis and subject matter expertise. This role supports preGames content production and adheres to established editorial guidelines and journalistic standards.
While typically focused on developing and implementing program segments this role allows for independent judgment creative initiative and collaboration. The ideal candidate blends editorial acumen with organizational precision and thrives in an inclusive fastpaced and teamoriented environment.
Main Responsibilities
Work closely with the Senior Producer to provide comprehensive editorial research that informs program segments and series.
Proactively identify and develop storylines and angles that align with CBC/RadioCanadas journalistic policies and program standards.
Establish and plan the nature and scope of materials to be gathered coordinating team members as needed.
Respond to Olympic and Paralympic specific research requests from editorial teams and stakeholders providing accurate and insightful information.
Manage the logistics of complex research and informationgathering projects across CPU and partner teams.
Coordinate and negotiate guest/interview subject availability to ensure optimal resource use.
Direct simple shoots (e.g. interviews background visuals) when needed without requiring the presence of the Senior Producer.
Research write and edit content and scripts for Olympic and Paralympic programmingensuring consistency in style accuracy and tone.
Contribute to and help maintain editorial calendars for existing and future content opportunities.
Oversee the workflow for editorial research contentrequesting producing curating and retiring material as appropriate.
Audit content for quality relevance and accuracy making improvements where necessary.
Perform general researcher duties with an emphasis on proactive storytelling and responsive editorial support.
Edit and refine Olympic and Paralympic related content created by others.
Cultivate and maintain relevant industry contacts including within national sporting federations.
Foster strong working relationships across all Olympic and Paralympic editorial teams at CBC/RadioCanada
What You Bring
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in broadcasting or a closely related industry.
A university degree or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrated ability to manage editorial research with resourcefulness precision fiscal responsibility and timeliness.
Strong knowledge of the Olympic and Paralympic Games both historically and in the current context.
Familiarity with Canadas key sporting federations and organizations (e.g. Alpine Canada Skate Canada CPC COC).
A natural curiosity and an ability to think boldly and strategicallykeeping audience needs at the heart of editorial decisions.
A commitment to accuracy with a belief that 99% right is still 100% wrong.
The agility to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and thrive in a fastpaced environment.
Excellent multitasking skills and an openness to new ideas and perspectives.
