Job Description

Parking Lot Monitor @ Police Dept./ Child Safety

Purpose:

Work under minimal supervision to assist in providing student safety and to patrol/monitor high school campus parking lots.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Must be at least 18 years of age
Valid Class C drivers license

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Basic knowledge of traffic safety regulations
Ability to identify and respond quickly to traffic safety hazards
Must demonstrate willingness to work with children and staff
Ability to communicate instructions effectively to both children and adults
Ability to read understand and follow written instructions
Willing to work outdoors in a campus parking lot 8 hours a day no matter the weather

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Patrol and monitor high school campus parking lots.
Assist children and other community members to safely cross the street at assigned intersections during designated hours without undue delay for vehicle traffic.
Manage heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Manage large groups and unruly children.
Identify potential traffic safety hazards and respond quickly to protect children and avoid incidents.

Ensure a smooth and expedient flow of both vehicular and foot traffic.
Follow and uphold district safety requirements and report traffic violations and student misconduct in accordance with district procedures.
Communicate safety and traffic rules to students and parents as needed.
Correct unsafe conditions when possible and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor as soon as practicable.
Supply counts and reports as requested.
Report any person loitering in vicinity of or interfering with a guard/controller.
Use tact and courtesy when working and dealing with students and staff.

Other

Ability to read comprehend and prepare various reports.
Has the ability to perform the job with little or no supervision.
Keep equipment in good condition.
Wear uniform and safety equipment at all times while on duty.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Manual Trades Security Personnel.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Handheld traffic signs traffic cones reflective safety attire security equipment and other security equipment fire extinguisher and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing

Motion: Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent driving

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (15 44 pounds)

Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather). Frequent districtwide travel

Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions. Ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; on call 24 hours a day.

Salary Range Min. $12735 Mid. $15209 Max. $17680(Based on previous experience)

Salary schedule with 3% of midpoint increase approved by the Board. Salary schedule soon to be released.
