The salary range for this role based in Fort Smith is $52240.00to $65300.00. The range will vary if outside of this location. Base salaries are determined during our interview process by assessing a candidatesexperience skills against internal peers and against the scope and responsibilities of the position.

Position Summary

The principal functions of this position are to provide analytical technical and operational information to the processing and bottling operations. The Lab Technician is in place to perform standard quality analysis maintain accurate records and to report nonconformance. The Lab Technician will perform duties and tasks to ensure that the quality of the product is maintained and meets established standards. The technician is tasked with performing quality testing and monitoring procedures relating to product finished goods as well as bulk/ingredient supplies. Teamwork skills are necessary to support improve and drive the Quality department of Hiram Walker to the next level.

Accountabilities

Conformance to Product Specifications:

  • Analysis of product including proof weight per gallon color brix pH methanol turbidity obscurations total soilds methanol analytes and organoleptic evaluation.
  • Record and maintain accurate records of test results.
  • Maintain production samples and reference composite samples.

Conformance of Bulk Ingredients:

  • Analysis on preshipments received flavors bulk ingredients and finished blends.
  • Verify incoming bulk meets current specification by performing color brix pH Benedicts and organoleptic evaluation.
  • Record and maintain accurate results.
  • Maintain bulk and flavor reference samples.
  • Report nonconformance to appropriate personnel.

Analysis of Water:

  • Perform prescribed analysis such as pH turbidity organoleptic chlorine and conductivity.
  • Record and maintain accurate records.
  • Report any nonconformance to the engineering department.

Quality Management Systems:

  • Updating and documenting new procedures and instruction in regard to laboratory testing and equipment calibration.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Process Quality Assurance is maintaining ISOOHSAS 18801 GMP and HACCP records. Utilize CAM as needed to input WOs in order to drive repairs aimed towards improving performance.
  • Support the Pernod Ricard Safety Culture initiative and report any safety risk or concerns to department management.
  • Must follow written PPE requirements and abide by all safety guidelines outlined in procedures and work instructions.
  • Employees are required to report all accidents incidents and nearmisses immediately. These would include all nondisabling and disabling injuries and occupational illnesses fatalities fires and explosions property damage chemical spills and any incident having the potential for property damage or personal injury.
  • Achieve the corporate objective on lost time accident.

Special Projects:

  • Experiments targeting Quality Assurance.
  • System improvements.

Continuous Improvements:

  • Participate in Continuous improvement teams when needed.
  • Continuous improvement to lab procedures.
  • Continuously look for areas to improve (nonvalueadded tasks).

Microbiological Analysis:

  • Conduct Microbiological Analysis as required on Finished Product ingredients and water.
  • Maintain records associated with micro testing.
  • Release Finished products in E1 based on test results.

Wastewater:

  • Analyze wastewater samples accordingly.
  • Maintain records associated with testing.

Sensory:

  • Setup and take down daily panels.
  • Maintain sensory records.

Scope

  • Relationships: List those in and outside the Company with whom the job holder has regular work related contact and describe the nature of the interaction.
  • Quality Assurance Complete day to day operations of the lab and complete retention/gin oil blending and bottling as necessary.
  • Bottling and Processing Report daily sample results to operations. Identify and report nonconformance issues related to product quality.
  • Organoleptic Committee Evaluation of ingredients and products.
  • SuppliersReport approvals and rejections of ingredients. Provide feedback on supplier performance.
  • External Auditors ISO Certification.
  • Level of Confidentiality Required: Confidential.
  • Financial Responsibility: May track or report data and handle administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelors degree (4 year) or equivalent.
  • Experience/Background: Prior lab work.
  • Technical Functional Skills: The law the physical sciences (biology chemistry etc.) or applied mathematics.

Working Conditions

Physical/Skilled Labor: Work is performed in a general production area and/or office environment with regular demands for moving lifting/carrying/lowering up to 50 pounds standing walking climbing and pushing. Normal visual hearing and language acuity required for correspondence and computer usage.
