Position Summary

Sets up and operates CNC machines such as lathes and mills to cut shape or form metal work pieces to specifications by performing the duties/responsibilities indicated below.

Supervisory Responsibility

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Key responsibilities of this position include (other responsibilities may be assigned)

Sets up accurately and operates CNC machines.

Works with minimal assistance from supervision

Assists employees in job classifications of lesser skill levels.

Proves out program and tooling in these areas.

Works from prints sketches process sheets layouts templates written and verbal instructions.

Checks CNC programs for errors and edits them in order to improve time and quality of program.

Can make minor programming changes when necessary.

Consults programmer to establish sequence of operation and product program readout when required.

Measures and adjusts machine parts.

Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.

Trouble shoots and interprets malfunctions and makes corrections.

May assist others in repair of own machines or equipment.

Detects and reports machine problems and faulty material.

Checks traveler and blueprints for errors or special instructions.

Makes layouts and sketches as required

Uses precision measuring equipment to check accuracy and quality of product.

Selects and sets up best available tooling to run job efficiently. Checks for accuracy grade style.

Locates adjusts and secures tools and tool holders grinds tools mounts work holding fixtures and adjusts index table to follow programming instructions.

Uses hoists and cranes to move parts around work center and loads and unloads machine.

Adds coolants and lubricants when necessary and changes or assists in changing coolant supply.

Keeps work area machinery and equipment clean and orderly.

Keeps necessary records.

Receives instructions from the leadership team or designee.

Complies with all company and safety rules regulations and practices.

Complies with all G&Os.

Must be able to constrain in other equipment or processes.

Qualifications and Required Skills:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. 1 to 3 years of experience in a related field and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

High School diploma or equivalent is required

Ability to set up and run CNC machines in time allocated.

Knowledge of CNC controls and programming skills.

Knowledge of tooling including best grades to use for different materials and jobs cutting speeds and feeds drilling threading and machine capabilities.

Read blueprints traveler and measuring micrometer.

Make set ups strong and safe enough to run at optimum speeds and depths of cut.

Troubleshoot and edit programs to safely increase metal removal rate and decrease in cycle time.

Use precision measuring instruments to check parts.

Improve quality by inspecting parts and make sure that part is to print.

Must be able to gain selfinspection stamp within a sixmonth period of time by machining a high quality product.

Must be able to use large wrenches to tighten fixtures.

Must be able to manipulate large castings in place for machining.

Must have own tools such as hammers wrenches pliers etc.

Must be available to work overtime when required for priority shipments.

Must be able to perform TPMs.

Pay Range: $28 $32 an hour

Within this range individual pay is determined based on skills experience and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws if applicable.
