Responsibilities
Supervise Security Officer I and II as well as student staff on duty across both campuses. Assist the Director Associate Director and Assistant Director in coordinating the work activities of others including scheduling security officers and dispatchers. Provide leadership and mentorship to security officers and dispatchers during shifts. Conduct monthly and annual employee development for assigned security officers and dispatchers. Assist with reviewing the parking inbox and parking appeals. Review daily incident reports and assign followup actions to security officers. Rotating weekly oncall status Defend self and others from unauthorized use of nondeadly force using departmentally trained techniques including but not limited to the use pepper spray and handcuffs as necessary. Patrol University property to prevent and detect signs of intrusion theft and life safety concerns and maintain safety during Campus events. This includes making regular inspection tours of campus noting unusual occurrences and ensuring all necessary doors and buildings are properly secured. Monitor individuals on campus watching for unauthorized persons suspicious activity disturbances and policy violations and reporting to the appropriate authorities. Investigate suspicious activity security concerns and criminal incidents. Gather and process evidence and document findings in written and verbal reports. Respond to campus disturbances (e.g. disorderly conduct underage drinking illicit drug use) and conduct room searches as necessary. Respond to campus emergencies including critical incidents active threats and allhazard situations (e.g. active shooter bomb threats mental health crises weatherrelated emergencies). Contact oncall supervisor as needed for emergency situations. Maintain awareness of University property life safety systems and emergency plans including the proper use of fire extinguishers. Respond to accidents and medical emergencies providing First Aid CPR Narcan and/or Stop the Bleed as necessary. Liaise with local police and fire departments as needed. Ensure knowledge and compliance with all University and departmental standard operating procedures. Provide prompt courteous service to students staff and visitors including medical and courtesy escorts on campus. Escort students staff and visitors to various locations on Campus and provide protection as necessary. Escort and remove persons from Campus as needed. Address and resolve any safety concerns during shifts including submitting work orders or notifying appropriate staff. Monitor building systems including boilers and refrigeration/freezer units notifying Facilities as needed. Monitor CCTV and review footage for security and investigative purposes. Answer phone calls take messages provide information and assist with inquiries. Enforce University rules and regulations issue parking tickets and notify violators of infractions. Write clear concise incident reports and support documentation (e.g. photos video). Provide coverage at designated campus athletic events. Assist with campus snow removal operations as needed. Cross training as Dispatcher and Safe Ride operator preferred. Provide public assistance such as lockout services jumpstarts and routine information requests. Assist administration with investigations as assigned. Maintain confidentiality of all departmental and Universityrelated information. Complete all mandatory departmental Police One training. Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required with at least five years of experience in security military law enforcement 911 dispatching or fire/ EMS preferred. Proficient knowledge of the departments Standard Operating Procedures and the duties of Security Officer I and II roles. Communityfocused and customer serviceoriented. Proactive in identifying areas for improvement within the department. Strong leadership and mentoring abilities. Ability to respond to emergency situations calmly effectively and professionally. Willingness to be trained in and utilize handcuffs and OC spray. Ability to maintain confidentiality of departmental and Universityrelated information. Must possess a valid Maine drivers license and be able to safely operate motor vehicles golf carts and other department equipment. Must be certifiedor able to obtain certificationin First Aid CPR / AED Narcan Stop the Bleed and other equipment as assigned.
