Speech Language Pathologist
Nature of Work:
SpeechLanguage Pathologists (SLPs) work with educational evaluation teams to
provide comprehensive language and speech assessments for students. Services
to students with speechlanguage disorders may be provided in individual or small
group sessions in classrooms when teaming with teachers or in a consultative
model with teachers and parents. SLPs integrate students; speechlanguage
goals with academic outcomes and functional performance.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology
Licensed by NC Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists
Prefer Certification of Clinical Competencies (CCCs)
Terms of Employment: 10 months with salary to be established by the North
Carolina State Salary Schedule. Supervised by school principal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Organizes a program that addresses local school speechlanguage goals.
Works cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and
objectives of the local education agency.
Coordinates speechlanguage services with student services provided
by other school personnel.
Maintains records of the speechlanguage program and prepares
periodic reports as required.
Adheres to established rules regulations laws and appropriate ethical
standards.
Conducts speech language and hearing screenings.
Administers formal and informal (ongoing & curriculumbased) assessments.
Obtains additional diagnostic information from appropriate persons
and available records for speechlanguage purposes.
Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding
the need for speechlanguage services.
Provides appropriate information on an informal or formal basis
regarding speech language and hearing programs.
Supervises undergraduate interns paraprofessionals volunteers and other
professionals (as appropriate).
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of North Carolina
Standard Course of Study in management of communicative disorders.
Collaborates/consults with classroom teachers in the management of
speechlanguage disorders.
Plans evidencebased interventions appropriate for individual students
and groups of students.
Uses evidencebased methods and techniques appropriate to stated
objectives.
Manages the facilities materials and equipment including assistive
technology necessary to the delivery of services.
Adjusts intervention strategies based upon student performance.
Promotes elective interpersonal relations with students.
Completes procedural documentation appropriately.
Demonstrates knowledge and use of statewide testing procedures.
Abides by professional code of ethics.
Develops appropriate IEPs based on students and needs.
Demonstrates awareness of professional performance in due process
matters and litigious environments.
Manages time efliciently.
Engages in continuing education and professional growth activities
related to speech languagehearing and education.
Provides consultation to parents teacher and other appropriate school
personnel.
Seeks the assistance of teachers parents and others to meet the
communication needs of the students.
Consults/communicates with nonschool agencies to enhance services.
Makes recommendations and referrals for audiological/medical and related
services.
All other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of
hearing talking and repetitive motions. While performing the responsibility of
this job the employee is regularly expected to stand and walk and sometimes
has to stoop kneel or crouch.
Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force
occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to
lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects.
Full-Time
