Salary Range: $3477 $4632

Starting salary for this position is: $3477 (Monthly)

Employees hired at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. An employee hired at anything higher than the entry step of the range will have salary step advancement after 12 months and every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase.

About Us

Spokane Colleges is comprised of two accredited colleges Spokane Community College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) serving Spokane Stevens Whitman Ferry and Pend Oreille Counties as well as portions of Lincoln County.

Both colleges are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and governed by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.

About theCustodian Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction of the Custodian Manager this position supervises custodial staff and manages the custodial/housekeeping program for Spokane may also train subordinates and perform administrative tasks such as recommending budget levels for supplies and equipment staffing levels staff training requirements and department policies and procedures.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and instruct classified and parttime hourly employees (train schedule evaluate discipline and respond to grievances). Adhere to classified contracts and all district rules and regulations ensuring efficient operations. *
    • Inform and educate staff about behavior and performance expectations provide timely and accurate feedback regarding performance and ensure performance and behavioral problems are corrected promptly and effectively. *
    • Train personnel in various custodial housekeeping and general maintenance functions to maintain the cleanliness and care of the institution. *
    • Train personnel on supervisory techniques new products and equipment use. *
  • Evaluate the performance of employees against established standards and counsel them on performance; take or recommend corrective or disciplinary action when necessary. *
  • Operate a safety program by training staff in safety and maintains a followup program on accidents and safety prevention techniques. *
  • Meet with vendors to learn about new products make product tests and recommend purchase of equipment supplies and machinery. *
  • Assist in maintaining budget control for labor and materials. *
  • Prepare a variety of reports such as analyses of custodial workloads service requirements and employee job performance. *
  • Ensure that equipment is properly maintained. *
  • Establish the location of various collection points collection schedules records and quality control operations relating to material recycling programs including necessary contacts with recycling vendors. *
  • Determine staffing needs for buildings. Oversee activities in assigned area of responsibility. *
  • Coordinate with departments having activities events and/or furniture moves requiring custodial support. *
  • Use a computer maintenance management system to create and document discrepancies close work orders document setup actions and time manage workflow and conduct analysis of work history. *
  • Occasionally drive light trucks vans and other mobile equipment. *
  • Will be a working supervisor performing custodial tasks as required. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies procedures and directives state and federal regulations orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance Spokane Colleges strategic plan and perform other duties as assigned. *

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1B visa. In addition the Spokane Colleges maintain a drugfree work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and stateowned vehicles. Medical dental life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; WA State Retirement Plan; vacation and sick leave begin to accrue at the rate of one (1) day per month upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.) This position is designated a bargaining unit position and union membership is not a condition of employment. Leave accruals and usage are governed by the WFSE collective bargaining agreement.
