DescriptionJOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision provide bioinformatic support for a variety of research projects and collaborate in designing and implementing bioinformatic tools for basic and translational biomedical research.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Masters degree in bioinformatics mathematics biomathematics computer science engineering or related scientific discipline or Bachelors degree with three years experience in statistics
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide bioinformatics support for biostatistics and bioinformatics analyses in both humans and nonhuman primate models.
- Develop bioinformatics genomics proteomics and related objectives to achieve study goals.
- Design and develop bioinformatics analysis and visualization software tools and web applications.
- Data visualization genomic and bioinformatic analyses in R and command line programs in a highthroughput computing environment.
- Develop and apply computational algorithms to biomedical studies using genomic proteomic expression imaging and other related data. Examples include but are not limited to classical statistical methods machine learning vector support analysis neural networks and regression trees.
- Perform timely and accurate bioinformatics analysis to aid researchers in high throughput data analysis. Maintain support and document shared tools web pages and data sets for computational analysis. Assist in the development and maintenance of relational database for storing data and analysis results. Work with other researchers in the Quillen Lab to define and implement bioinformatics analysis tools.
- Assist in advance analyses under the supervision of faculty expedite collaborations with other labs and assist in the supervision of undergraduate and shortterm student interns.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with resources and tools relevant to research in genomics proteomics bioinformatics and related disciplines
- An understanding of the fundamentals of modern biology and bioinformatics
- Experience in computer programming in R and database programming
- Knowledge of statistics and experience conducting statistical analysis
- Experience with bioinformatic tools and public databases
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience analyzing nonhuman primate data
