Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in related field
Masters degrees in related field preferred
Valid Texas teachers certificate in related field
Three (3) years experience as a selfcontained teacher preferred
Ability to work with school and community population
Primary Purpose:
Provides consultation to and training for special education teachers serving students with moderate to severe disabilities and to parents of students with disabilities. Be available to provide demonstration teaching and to assist regular classroom teachers in acquiring the skills necessary for the successful integration of students with disabilities with their nondisabled peers. Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities who are in crisis situations and/or whose educational progress has not been consistent with IEP goals. Assist with creating special education campus schedules. Monitor & support implementing of state alternate assessments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Model effective teaching strategies.
- Observe specific students in various settings to make recommendations for individual IEP and Behavioral Intervention Plans.
- Assist teachers responsible for educating students with disabilities in setting up a structured classroom environment including schedules for students.
- Assist in the mentoring of new teachers responsible for educating students with moderate to severe disabilities in the development of structured teaching strategies and the delivery of appropriate academic curriculum. Provide written feedback to teachers diagnostic specialists and campus administrators.
- Assist in the development of instructional activities curriculum planning/writing and staff development.
- Model lessons for campuslevel staff and for purposes of informal evaluation of students.
- Attend staffing meetings and ARD meetings when appropriate to assist with the development and/or evaluation of individual educational plans.
- Assist teachers and parents in data collection and in the evaluation of student progress.
- Promote the inclusion of students with disabilities with those students who do not have disabilities.
- Assist in the ordering of a standard list of materials for new and established classes.
- Assist in the selection and ordering of instructional materials and in determining appropriate strategies for using these materials in the classroom (includes adaptive and assistive technology).
- Attend content or program specific meetings when requested.
- Assist campus staff in developing schedules for effective and efficient use of special education personnel.
- Assist with coordination of implementation of programs and curriculum.

Working Conditions:
- Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Frequent standing stooping bending kneeling pushing crouching crawling reaching climbing and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift moderate weight 15 44 pounds carrying light weight under 15 pounds. Exposure to biological hazards noise.
