I. Job Summary
Supervises daily landfill operations. Conducts operation maintenance and monitoring activities at all assigned closed landfills in compliance with site permits and environmental regulations. This position is responsible for collecting and managing field monitoring data operating and maintaining environmental remediation systems supervising contractors assisting with budget tracking and procurement and acting as liaison to regulatory inspectors and other stakeholders. This is an onsite field position assigned to multiple sites in the south side of Chicago and Calumet City IL.


II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and grow a solid working knowledge of all landfill sitespecific systems and their operation and maintenance requirements includingLandfill gas management and collection systems and flare/gas plant operations
  • Leachate management collection and treatment systems
  • Related SCADA systems
  • Groundwater and surface water monitoring and control systems
  • Other ancillary equipment and site operation and maintenance requirements
  • Operate and maintain sitespecific systems to maintain compliance with permits and environmental regulations.
  • Perform routine inspections designed to monitor the sitespecific landfill systems for required maintenance repairs and troubleshooting as necessary to ensure proper site operations and provide options for longterm system improvements.
  • Conduct routine monitoring of the landfill gas collectors for landfill gas parameters and conduct gas sampling at site specific gas monitoring devices as required by site permits.
  • Possess written and verbal communication and computer skills (e.g. MS office particularly Excel spreadsheets) necessary to document compliance with site permits environmental regulations and WM operating standards.
  • Collect and record system information and site operational data while performing daily operational duties that is necessary for documentation in required records and reports. Information is recorded at frequencies required by permit regulation or WM operating standard.
  • Ability to use collected data and information to analyze and troubleshoot and solve problems and challenges that may occur with site systems or site environmental conditions.
  • Capability to learn to utilize other jobrelated technical software including but not limited to App based technologies to facilitate digital inspections reporting and data analytics.
  • Some knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) SCADA and/or automation and control systems is beneficial.
  • Routine travel to sites from home or office as required to complete site responsibilities.
  • Supervise contractors and consultants conducting maintenance and repair work in order to ensure the quality and timeliness of their work.
  • Communicate effectively with the District Manager on site operations on a consistent basis to ensure transparency in regard to work schedules project updates and site status.
  • Maintain and update as necessary sitespecific plans records files and other site information.
  • Work with other site staff as necessary to facilitate completion of required operation maintenance or repair tasks.
  • Review and implement environmental and safety regulations according to site permits and company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulators local governments and the general public potentially involved with or affected by the sites.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities
This individual will have only indirect supervisory duties for the leachate technicians at CID Landfill supervisory duties over thirdparty consultants and contractors

IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
  • Experience: 4 years of relevant work experience.

B. Certificates Licenses Registrations or Other Requirements

  • None required.

C. Other Knowledge Skills or Abilities Required

  • Equipment operating health safety and environmental regulations knowledge and supervisory experience may be required.

Normal setting for this job is landfill/outdoor.

The expected base pay range for this office/onsite position is $69410 $89000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates relevant experience education training certifications qualifications and work location.

In addition this position is eligible for 10% AIP bonus.
