Job Description

HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Alexander Central High School

12month position

General Statement of Job

To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies programs curriculum activities and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member. To oversee day to day activities extracurricular school activities and community events it may require evening and weekend hours.

Required education

  • Masters degree or higher in School Administration.
  • Valid North Carolina administrators license.
  • Successful assistant principal experience.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Screens selects directs and evaluates performance of certified and classified staff members.
  • Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
  • Communicates effectively with the business and residential community and participates in civic activities.
  • Motivates employee performance and enhances morale.
  • Administers a balanced budget.
  • Supervises and manages site operation to assure safety and efficiency.
  • Ability to visualize and implement change.
  • Follows all rules policies and procedures of Alexander County Schools along with state and federal regulations pertaining to all school issues.
  • Orients and assists new staff members and new students.
  • Plans develops coordinates and evaluates the operations of the school.
  • Identifies annual objectives for the instructional extracurricular and athletic programs of the school.
  • Supervises and appraises the performance of the school staff in accordance with state and local requirements.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude toward job and remains a flexible and innovative team builder.
  • Maintains interschool communications and seeks assistance from central services staff to improve performance; maintains good relationships with students staff and parents; complies with established lines of authority.
  • Develops an effective professional learning community aligned with the school improvement plan focused on results.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Perform under stress deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations.
  • Motivate staff and students
  • Knowledge of behavior management and reinforcement techniques
  • Speak to individuals or groups of people with oise and confidence
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagrammatic form
  • Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions

Additional duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators and designated by the superintendent.
