You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailJOB PURPOSE: University Settlement seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable finance professional to join our Board of Directors. This individual will play a key role in overseeing our organizations financial health and sustainability ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and providing strategic guidance on financial planning and management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Work with the Executive Director and Director of Finance in support of financial oversight for the organization. Ensuring transparency accountability and sustainability in budgeting financial reporting and longterm financial planning.
Assist in reviewing and interpreting financial statements tax filings (Form 990) independent audits and other financial documents to advise the board on key fiscal matters.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial best practices IRS regulations and relevant accounting standards (GAAP for nonprofits).
Serve as a liaison between the board and the finance committee and external auditors ensuring clear and effective communication on financial matters.
Support the development of sound financial policies and procedures including internal controls investment policies and risk management strategies.
Provide guidance to ensure approval of annual operating budget.
Help assess financial risks and opportunities providing insights to support strategic decisionmaking.
Actively participate in board meetings committee work (such as a finance or audit committee) and organizational planning.
Serve as Chair of the Finance /HR board committee and Treasurer of the Board
Mentor and support the executive leadership team in financial literacy and management.
OTHER FUNCTIONS: Attend board meetings (bimonthly). Lead finance committee meetings and provide ongoing advisory support as needed. Works effectively and positively with board members University Settlement staff stakeholders and volunteers. Estimated commitment: 510 hours per month.
QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive experience in nonprofit finance accounting or auditing.
CPA CMA or equivalent accounting designation preferred.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial reporting (including IRS 990 requirements and GAAP).
Experience in financial management budgeting and strategic financial planning for nonprofits.
Familiarity with grant compliance donorrestricted funds and nonprofit revenue streams.
Prior experience serving on a nonprofit board or finance committee is a plus.
Commitment to the mission and values of University Settlement.
Works directly with: Board Chair Executive Director and Finance Director.
