Assist with the administration of medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensure the wellbeing of patients and provide a positive supportive and structured environment
under the direction of charge nurse or supervisor.
Administer prescribed medications to patients according to established protocols and physician orders.
Prepare and organize medication doses including oral topical and other forms as directed.
Ensure medications are stored and handled in accordance with safety guidelines and regulatory
requirements.
Document patient interactions and report changes in patient conditions or behaviors by
communicating with team. Significant changes are reported to nurse immediately.
Document timely accurate and appropriate information in patient medical record.
Identify self to patient and visitors promptly and respond to patient requests quickly.
Respond to distressed patients in a nonthreatening manner and attempt to understand the source of
distress.
Apply deescalation techniques to help manage patients emotions behavior and participation in
treatment.
Communicate clearly and effectively to patients family members guests and other members of the
health care team.
Adherence to work schedule and overall attendance.
Follow established policies procedures and standards for patient care.
Stay informed about changes in medication practices and healthcare regulations.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.
Collaborate with other staff in working with the population of the facility to treat and rehabilitate.
Demonstrate a positive empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When
patient needs are not met acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety
is a top priority.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a Medication Technician/Aide training program as required by the state in which the
facility is located.
Basic understanding of pharmacology and medication administration techniques.
Previous experience in a behavioral health setting preferred.
Knowledge and experience working with the population of the facility preferred.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification as a Medication Technician/Aide as required by the state in which the facility is located.
CPR and deescalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by
facility).
First aid may be required based on state or facility.
