DEARBORN ACADEMYCLINICIAN Start Date: Augmonth school year maternity leave Dearborn Academy one of New Englands leading 766 approved therapeutic day schools is seeking a Guidance Counselor. Dearborn enrolls up to sixty students in grades 312 who have emotional and/or specific learning disabilities. Our rich academic program which includes diversified student support and explicit instruction combined with our strong clinical component allows students who have been unsuccessful in previous school settings to achieve substantial gains. Clinicians work closely with the Dearborn Academy Principal an LICSW to develop goals and interventions that help students learn the necessary skills to become engaged members of their community and when indicated return to less restrictive academic settings. Clinicians have a critical role as lead members of the team in creating a traumasensitive school where students feel secure in learning from their successes and mistakes. Dearborn seeks candidates with experience in culturallyresponsive approaches and practices. The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have the following qualities and experience:Experience working with students with diverse learning styles and social/emotional disabilitiesExperience in or willingness to learn how to write and present IEPs Strong writer and communicatorCollaborative team memberAble to synthesize data various viewpoints and informationApproach difficult situations or interpersonal dynamics with a solutionfocused strengthsbased mindsetDemonstrated compassion curiosity and kindness towards students families and staffBelief that students who demonstrate unexpected behaviors have gaps in their skills with a drive to identify these gaps and then teach to the skill areas to address these gapsAbility to maintain a manner consistent with the agency commitment to honest direct communication between all members of our staff faculty and administration as an essential feature of creating a positive working and learning environment for our studentsDemonstrated respect for working on a diverse team and promoting an atmosphere that values this diversityResponsibilities:Deliver individual counseling to support students social and emotional health and wellbeingComplete family and developmental histories; conduct observations and assigned formal and informal psychosocial evaluations Maintain communication with teachers caregivers and outside providers regarding the socialemotional needs and functioning of studentsAssist students in transferring their skills from counseling sessions to the larger school community by observing coaching and supporting them in classes and the milieuHelp teachers and others understand the impact of sociocultural factors as they pertain to student performance in school to maximize student learning Provide stewardship around the planning and implementation of schoolwide SEL programs and other prosocial communitybuilding activitiesWork collaboratively with other school professionals to analyze data determine effective interventions and monitor the effectiveness of such interventionsMake referrals coordinate and maintain outreach to caregivers and outside agencies to address mental health needsIn collaboration with school professionals and administrators intervene during crisis situations and make appropriate referralsPrepare reports and written communications as necessary including IEP goals progress reports and annual review reportsWork with administration to inform staff of mandated reporting law and facilitate 51A filing Actively participate in IEP meetings and other student services meetingsActively participate in program departmental and schoolwide trainings meetings and activities Provide training and conduct teacher and/or caregiver groups as appropriate Other duties as assigned by principal and head of school Qualifications:Masters degree in Social Work Counseling Psychology or a related fieldLICSW/LMHC or licenseeligible strongly preferredExperience in a school environment preferredExcellent relational skills and a strong capacity to relate to students and caregivers The Dearborn Academy Clinician works 10 months.
