Position Summary
The Family Resource Educational Assistant (EA) position is responsible for providing support to families in our school system. The Family Resource EA works in collaboration with building staff to ensure families have access to needed supports by seeking out available resources and then assisting families with accessing those resources. The Family Resource EA supports families directly with navigating required paperwork for resources and connecting with organizations.
Essential Functions
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Greet / support families when expressing needs to office staff.
- Assists families with required paperwork / documentation to qualify for services through District programs or partner organizations.
- Develop and prioritize lists of family and student needs.
- Support families to secure resources and provide a warm handoff to the organization / team that will provide additional supports in those areas.
- Compete initial paperwork and documentation to orient the family for necessary services.
- Work in collaboration with building staff to ensure families have access to needed supports.
- Work in collaboration with building and District staff to ensure families have access to needed supports.
- Operate various office machines.
- Schedules conferences and programs as required including creating schedules contacting all invited parties preparing confirmation and distributing materials to all parties.
- Monitoring supply usage.
- Preparing and processing documents and reports requiring familiarity of program subject matter knowledge.
- Completes required District logs forms and paperwork as required.
- Maintains student discipline in the absence of the teacher.
- Assists students with behavior management including deescalation conflict resolution and adherence to behavioral expectations.
- Assists students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
- May perform general office duties including answering multiline phones routing telephone calls or messages to appropriate staff greeting the public typing filing sorting and handling incoming and outgoing mail.
- May type correspondence reports and other documents for program area staff; may compose correspondence according to general instructions; performing production level word processing tasks.
- May assist in Health Room by providing first aide.
- May provide direct assistance to students behavioral academic and or personal needs.
- May assess and records student academic and behavior measures.
- Perform duties associated with general record keeping.
- Attends inservice trainings and staff meetings as directed.
- Conduct basic data entry assignments.
- May assist with attendance attendance monitoring and attendance reporting.
- Other related duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Associates degree or higher (attach diploma); OR
- Completion of two years postsecondary study consisting of 72 credit hours 48 semester units (attach transcripts); OR
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) AND
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment or paraprofessional certificate program knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing as appropriate reading/language arts writing and mathematics or reading readiness writing readiness and mathematics readiness.
Certificates Licenses Registration & Other Requirements
- Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass SafeSchools training modules as assigned.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
Desired Qualifications
- Related experience in an educational setting.
- Bilingual/Biliterate preferred
Knowledge Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education training and/or experience.)
Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; modern office practices and procedures; letter writing correct language usage; receptionist telephone and record keeping/filing systems; computer hardware and software programs and their usage; modern office equipment; safety and first aid practices and procedures.
Ability to: understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; maintain appropriate appearance and attire; maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality as set forth in Board policy greet stakeholders; provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies procedures and other pertinent information; operate maintain and arrange for repair various office/school equipment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds; interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students staff parents and community members and resolves conflict in a professional manner; maintain records; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding make mathematical calculations accurately; follow oral and written instructions.
