About the Department
St Vincents Pathology provides pathology services to St Vincents Health Australia Hospitals Specialists and General Practitioners in the Melbourne area.
The laboratory is located at St Vincents Public Hospital in Fitzroy.
About the Position
You will work as part of the Microbiology team to assist in the achievement of the teams overall goal to produce accurate high quality and timely reports to the Clinician. You may be assigned tasks by the Team Leader related to the processing of specimens loading and maintenance of the Aution4050 Bactec Vitek PreviColor and other instruments despatch and storage of serology specimens preparation of reagents cleaning of glassware and autoclaving of waste.
Duties
- Perform all tasks in compliance with St. Vincents Policies and Procedures to ensure a healthy and safe workplace for Microbiology staff and visitors
- Follow laboratory procedures to ensure a safe workplace and utilise personal protection (i.e. gloves Biohazard cabinets) when required
- Complete the annual mandatory online training
- Process specimens in accordance with laboratory methods to ensure accurate timely and quality results
- Process routine specimens of urines swabs sputa faeces and environmental specimens according to laboratory procedures to ensure accurate timely and high quality results. Refer specimens to the rostered supervising scientist where appropriate
Qualifications Skills and Experience
- Qualification of VCE including Mathematics and Biological Sciences electives
- Basic knowledge of Microbiology
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Experience with automated equipment (Aution4050 Bactec Vitek PreviColor)
- Experience in reagent preparation
