Description

THIS PARTTIME ROLE WITH SENIOR AND SOCIAL SERVICES IS 19.5 HOURS PER WEEK WITH A VARYING SCHEDULE.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision of the Senior Center Supervisor incumbent plans develops and oversees a comprehensive volunteer program and facilitates a variety of specialized programs for Senior and Social Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Coordinates and schedules volunteers based on departmental needs and volunteer interests and abilities.
  2. Recruits interviews and selects volunteers using a variety of publicity strategies including senior center newsletter social media flyers press releases and campaigns.
  3. Provides support and training for volunteers.
  4. Maintains records statistics and volunteer database and creates applicable reports.
  5. Develops volunteer retention strategies including organizing recognition events.
  6. Provides input on policies and procedures impacting the volunteer program.
  7. Participates in the planning and coordination of various programs.
  8. Leads participants in program activities and events to facilitate program objectives.

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. Assists with Riverfront Community Center front desk administrative and clerical duties as required.
  2. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:

  • Ability to:
    • Work collaboratively with others
    • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    • Provide a supportive encouraging environment for program participants
    • Work with computers and learn and utilize specialized software applications
  • Skilled in:
    • Understanding others reactions to interactions and activities through direct observation inquiry and active listening
    • Organizing and leading a diverse population with a variety of needs
  • Knowledge of:
    • Principles and processes for providing customer service including needs assessment meeting quality service standards and evaluating customer satisfaction

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to:
    • Push/pull/lift objects of up to 25 pounds occasionally
    • Sit or stand frequently; walk for prolonged periods of time or stoop occasionally
    • Perform manipulative skills such as keyboarding or filing
    • See objects closely as in typing a document or reading a report; hear normal sounds with background noise distinguish voice patterns and communicate with speech as in using a telephone
    • Concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption attend to task 60 minutes or more remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over long periods; understand and relate to specific ideas generally several at a time

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years experience in a related setting preferred especially with older populations and/or volunteers

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:

  • Valid Drivers License
