Project Coordinator (I)
Facility Services

Applicants will be considered in the following order:

1) Qualified permanent ESS/OSSTF Bargaining Unit employees.

2) Qualified probationary temporary and Temporary Hourly Rated (THR) ESS/OSSTF employees.

3) Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units)

The Waterloo Region District School Board is situated Canadas innovation heartland where we are innovating tomorrow by educating today. The Board provides a comprehensive educational program for approximately 64000 students in the Region of Waterloo. The Board is the seventh largest public school district in Ontario with 16 secondary schools 106 elementary schools and approximately 11000 staff members. Reporting to the Manager of Capital Projects the incumbent will be responsible to assist with all phases of new school construction alterations/additions building envelope retrofits program enhancements and major mechanical projects from design through to occupancy stage.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as the Board representative for all aspects of construction and design board wide
  • Evaluate needs and develop cost effective options in collaboration with other team members
  • Work with architects and consultants to develop accurate cost estimates for contemplated projects
  • Work with architects and consultants to prepare contract documents and specifications
  • Execute capital renewal (renovations) projects with budgets of up to $20M annually.
  • Execute all new construction (additions and new builds) for projects up to $60M.
  • Supervise and coordinate architectural and engineering services
  • Liaise between consultants contractors appropriate Board staff and regulatory officials
  • Monitor the progress of projects and report findings
  • Perform contract administration including the review of progress draws change notices schedules and as built documentation within contract timelines
  • Collaborate and liaise amongst Board departments and staff as required.
  • Report progress of major projects to senior management for quarterly Board meetings.
  • Develop and maintain standards manuals for equipment and building product and systems used in construction and facility renewal projects
  • Plan coordinate and implement all communication including project budget and schedule status with School administration (Principals and VPs) and Facilities Staff (Managers and Supervisors)
  • Review and Approve invoicing and payments to ensure compliance with legislation as outlined in the current Construction Act.
  • Provide or arrange for staff training on newly installed building systems

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary school education as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) Certified Architectural Technologist Architect or Engineer.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience as a project team leader in the institutional building construction and renewal industry is required
  • Demonstrated strong working knowledge of the installation and renewal of building mechanical and electrical systems including all facets of building science
  • Has successfully implemented multiple complex multiyear projects over $2.5M.
  • Welldeveloped knowledge of Ontario Fire and Building codes and other municipal regulations and bylaws.
  • Working knowledge of safety fire and building codes as well as other municipal regulations and bylaws
  • Proven ability to review and prepare contract documents for a variety of buildings and site related projects
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to implement cost effective solutions
  • Demonstrated organizational skills written and oral communication skills
  • Proven computer skills for applications in spreadsheets database and word processing systems
  • Knowledge of project management software systems is required
  • Knowledge of Auto CAD systems and Revit building information modeling would be an asset
  • High degree of initiative and selfconfidence necessary to function in a strong team based environment
  • Valid drivers license and personal vehicle are required
