Job Description

Title: Teacher Assistant (5th6th Grades)
Division: Middle School
Reports to: Instructional Coach
Status: FullTime NonExempt (Academic Year) CalSTRS Retirement Eligible
Salary Range: $30.53/hr

Summary
The Teacher Assistant supports 5th6th grade teachers in delivering highquality educational experiences at our college preparatory charter school. This role provides crucial classroom support helps manage student behavior assists with instructional delivery and contributes to maintaining an environment that fosters academic excellence and character development. Monday through Friday during regular school hours with occasional afterschool events

Essential Functions

  • Work with small groups of students to reinforce learning concepts introduced by the teacher
  • Provide oneonone academic support to students who need additional assistance
  • Help monitor student behavior during class time transitions lunch and recess
  • Support teachers in maintaining student records grading papers and recording assessment data
  • Assist in preparing classroom displays and instructional materials
  • Communicate effectively with teachers regarding student progress and concerns
  • Support administration of standardized tests and classroom assessments
  • Assist teachers with daily classroom operations including preparing materials organizing classroom space and setting up educational activities
  • Help supervise students during transitions breaks field trips and special events

  • Demonstrate knowledge and support of Making Waves Academys mission core values standards competencies and code of conduct outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Participate in the school community attending school competitions performances assemblies and extracurricular activities.
  • Participate in required campus supervision duties every week from Monday to Friday with varying frequency depending on the semesters supervision assignment.
Work Environment
  • This job operates in an office and school environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
  • Some travel required for MWA related events such as workshops or conferences.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly required to move around campus stand sit talk hear reach stoop kneel and use hands and fingers to operate a computer phone and keyboard.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required.
Education and Experience
  • Associates degree or minimum of 60 college credits required and experience working with students in an educational setting. Experience working with children in grades 56 preferred. Bachelors degree preferred. Teaching experience is very desirable
  • Knowledge of classroom management techniques
  • Proficiency in core academic subjects (math language arts science social studies)
Skills and Abilities
  • Understands how to support teachers in delivering lessons and activities by directly supporting student learning and reinforcing instruction provided by a teacher
  • Works effectively with teachers and other school staff to support student learning and classroom management. Ability to follow directions assist with activities and provide individual or small group support to students under a teachers guidance
  • Accurately and efficiently carries out instructions. Keeps materials organized manages tasks efficiently and adheres to schedules
  • Monitors students during various activities ensuring their safety and reports any concerns
  • Maintains appropriate conduct appearance and confidentiality regarding student information
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing needs and and student behaviors within the classroom
  • Basic technology skills including word processing spreadsheets and educational software
Licenses or Certificates
  • Employment eligibility will include fingerprints/Live Scan tuberculosis (TB) screening and other employment clearance.
