Reporting to the VicePresident (Finance and Administration) the Director of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides leadership management and oversight of information technology services and of the Universitys computing resources.

Salary range: Category D Level 5 $85305 $117594

Union/Exempt: Exempt

Term: Permanent FullTime

Hours of work: Monday to Friday; 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.

What youll do

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provides overall direction to the ITS Department and communicates to unit staff the Universitys information technology plans and objectives and strategies for achieving these plans and objectives.
  • Ensures that the ITS Department provides high levels of service to students faculty and staff.
  • Assists with the development of the annual ITS budget and has responsibility for administering the budget.
  • Leads procurement for IT solutions including the development of Requests for Proposals and negotiates contracts for IT products with various vendors in consultation with senior administration.
  • Reviews all requests to purchase computer equipment and supplies to ensure all equipment within the University is compatible with the policies and standards of the ITS Department.

Management

  • In consultation with the VP (Finance and Administration) develops and implements the Universitys information technology plans and objectives.
  • Assigns staff to projects and directs their activities. Reviews and evaluates work and conducts annual performance reviews with employees. Encourages staff development innovation and collaboration.
  • Represents the University on the NBPEI Educational Computer Network Committee in promoting and developing cooperative projects and works collaboratively with university partners such as the University of New Brunswick and Mount Allison University where a partnership arrangement is in place for certain IT services.

Oversight

  • Provides direction to the University regarding Cybersecurity and Privacy in consultation with senior administration.
  • Collaborates with academic and administrative staff to manage the use of information technology at the University based on the Universitys plans and policies.
  • Participates in various University committees to initiate and discuss ITS related policies and procedures and to ensure consistent implementation and application of the Universitys information systems.

What youll need

Qualifications

  • A university degree and at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role within an ITS environment preferably in a university setting.
  • Experience leading and developing an effective serviceoriented information technology unit in a unionized environment.
  • Experience managing the key functions of an ITS department such as daytoday help desk operations budgeting purchasing and project planning.
  • Experience with project management such as prioritizing assigning and managing staff coordinating the work of internal and external partners and managing budget. Project Management certification considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and engage with multiple stakeholders within a university community. This may include communicating technical concepts to a nontechnical audience.
  • Ability to analyze problems and select appropriate solutions while considering cost risk resources standards user community and other relevant factors.
  • Working knowledge of the Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act and of other relevant legislation relating to privacy personal information and antispam.
  • Experience with key areas of IT such as Cybersecurity Networking Enterprise Systems Desktop Management and cloudbased solutions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require occasional travel to meetings (e.g. national meeting typically once per year; regional meetings approximately six times per year).
  • Regular need to give immediate and detailed attention to matters and issues from various members of the university community.
  • Stress may result from dealing with a diverse set of demands frustrated internal customers or allocating limited resources in response to quickly changing requirements.
